Topic: Metro Redux

So this is the thread for those games as I did not found any.

After Digital Foundry video of the Switch port many people ask if there is GYRO aiming in the game.

I can confirm that Both games have gyro Aiming and both games are on the Cart.

I'll be buying a copy. I'm glad the Switch port is well done.

Cant remember if I’ve played these or not but regardless super excited to have them on Switch.

Bought the CE for the extras.

Day one for me, pre ordered. Never got round to playing any of the metro games last gen. and switch is my only option due to the 12v car charger.

I'm somewhat interested but no stores here seem to be selling it lower than RRP at launch (which is pretty unusual for a new release) so I'll just wait for now.

After seeing the Digital Foundry video I am very impressed. Although for some reason this year I think we will be getting a lot of ports like this that were early PS4 and Xbox one games because most of the publishers probably don't want to invest too much into those systems at this point so will either wait out for the next systems or see what they can do on the Switch. Not that I'll complain.

@Zuljaras Seeing as I've now seen the video being mentioned 2 times, I figured it would be a good thing to add it to your thread, so other people can see it as well. And as usual, with DF videos, it's a very thorough and entertaining watch, so it might even be useful in persuading people who are still on the fence or unsure about the game in general.

@ThanosReXXX Good call! I am not using the Gyro aiming as I dislike it on any game but the handheld mode of both games is just amazing. And on top of that Both games are on the CART!

But you get 2 Icons in the Switch menu. The game is NOT chosen in in-game menu etc.

I want every other port to be like that, especially if Bioshock is next!

@Zuljaras A video is always good, in my opinion. A nice little extra to illustrate a point. The cherry on top, so to speak. I do hope gyro is an option, and not a default. I downloaded Warface yesterday, and in that game, it's the standard control method, and personally, I hate gyro controls, so I had to switch it off.

@ThanosReXXX Oh no no, it is turned off from the start and you have to manually activate it if you want it.
It is just there for the Switch users

The same goes for both games.

There hasn’t been a drop of news ever since that (non) official picture surfaced of all 3 Bioshock’s getting an ESRB rating for Switch on that European website, right? 😡 @Zuljaras

I haven’t watched the digital foundry video yet, but I will today.

Not sure about you but just as a “talking point” I’m personally a big FPS player and have played/tried almost every single one from the PS3/360 era to PS4/X1. The Metro games are good, but nothing that stuck with me. I ended up trading all of them in to GameStop.

This upcoming release defines my own little thought process for Switch. I admit I’m like many others whether they admit it or not that I cave in and sometimes buy some Switch ports just cause I want another FPS or whatever type of game because it’s “now on Switch”. Bioshock is a whole different story. It’s in my top 3 franchises of all time, but Metro just gets thrown in my virtual bin of “just another mosh posh FPS”. I don’t mean to sound like I’m bashing it, but I’m afraid I may regret buying it. That being said, it won’t shock me if I do. 🙄 @Zuljaras

So I did pick this up yesterday. Definitely enjoying it. Metro 2033 looks a little rough. It runs great, I just mean because it’s the oldest game. Once I beat it I’m looking forward to starting Last Light. I’m sure that will look better graphics wise. @Zuljaras

@CTmatic Hm, I think it looks pretty good to be honest. The lightning is great and this game is all about the atmosphere.

Oh no, I agree. The port is fantastic for what they did with it. I’m just saying no matter how you slice it, the game is plain old and can only look so good. It came out almost exactly 10 years ago. (March 16, 2010)

I’m stoked to see it look even better in Last Light once I beat 2033. LL came out in 2013 so I’m sure it will be noticeably improved. @dewokkel

^ true but as noted in the DF video, these are based of the updated versions of the game which came out on Xbox One and PS4

Both games are very impressive. I picked up my copy on friday. This is a very well done port and for me an exemplary standard set on the system

This double pack is now available physically in the UK for £30 (see eBay or Simply Games) and I've just ordered it. I couldn't remember whether they had gyro aiming or not, checked the review and saw no mention, so this post has made me very happy.

This release deserves support people. Get to it!

Good lord. For anyone that has this. For the first time in months I went back to this. I started with 2033. Has anyone played this in handheld mode? I read other comments about this on Reddit. It’s borderline unplayable because you can’t see anything in most parts of underground levels. Even with the flashlight or lighter. I paused out of frustration to make the screen brighter to see there is no option to brighten it.

I’m a huge FPS guy, but never been a huge Metro fan. This put a real sour taste in my mouth that it may become GameStop trade bait once the pandemic gets better and they take trades in again. I’m sure there’s a technical reason for this but it blows my mind that you can’t brighten the screen. It makes the game unfairly difficult and increases cheap deaths from poor vision.
