Is anyone else extremely disappointed in this? I personally believe it renders the whole highlight reel function redundant as you're not able to share them with friends.
I would imagine there are several os adjustments that will come to the Switch at some point with a few features added. With the Nintendo account system having FB and Twitter connectivity baked in, logic would dictate the console will do the same once they've figured out a secure browser.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
While the current lack of any sharing function in MK8D is lame, Nintendo have mentioned (briefly noted here, for example) that there are plans for a Switch update to let you record video in the same way you can take screenshots. Speaking of screenshots, highlight reels are a fantastic source of them. That's how I got this avatar.
@Zyrac I read about those plans yesterday, I think it's a safe bet that these will be introduced this fall as part of their new online service.
I do hope they don't severely restrict the time of recordings, I think the PS4 handles gameplay recordings marvellously and I hope they follow suite. Though, I'd like some more editing tools, I think this is something they could push to really raise the bar.
@Zyrac You can record up to an hours worth of game play (including voice from a microphone attached to the system) which can be directly uploaded to Youtube and you can stream your games directly from the PS4 to Twitch. There are also some minor editing capabilities which allow you to trim the video down.
I'd love something similar on the Switch but I know that Nintendo can be a tad temperamental when it comes to copyright.
@Linoshi Honestly, I do feel like Nintendo are likely more interested in seeing people share brief clips rather than hour-long videos. I personally would be okay with a short video length if you could record the last X seconds retroactively, so I could just push the button whenever something cool happens. Having full-on streaming capabilities as well would be great though.
@Zyrac Yeah, I think it'll come when the paid service kicks in - hopefully, as you say, with the ability to save a video retroactively so that you can capture those unexpected gaming moments! I'd love to see streaming as well - but I'm told it's unlikely because of the extra demands it'd put on the console (although I'm no tech expert, so I can't say for sure!) **fingers crossed!**
I totally agree that the Switch is lacking in the social side of things - uploading photo's to social media is decent - but we should be able to send those photo's directly to friends too...just being able to message friends would be a start! ..I'm also kind of frustrated that there's no way (I can find) to send Mario Kart Time-Trial challenges to people on your friends list etc. (like you could on the Wii) - big miss for me! ..if they want us to pay - the service has to be a considerable improvement on anything we've seen them deliver before - at the moment, sadly, it just isn't ..but it's early days - so I'm willing to give them a pass for now!
@NaviAndMii I've mentioned before my frustration with the utter inability to communicate with people you've played with, which makes friend requesting them somewhat useless. If you could have so much as a single line of text on your profile, just to direct people to a Twitter profile or something, even that would be immensely helpful.
I have to agree that the Switch is incredibly lacking in the social and community features. Why did Nintendo deem it acceptable to release a console without even the most basic social features? I don't think Microsoft or Sony would get away with doing such a thing so why should Nintendo?
@TheLZdragon Personally, I'd like to see an updated version of the MiiVerse introduced alongside the launch of the new online service.
However, they seem to be pushing everything being done through an app, which I'm sorry is a god awful idea. Why would I want to go backwards and forwards between my phone and the console? I'd much rather have all the social features actually on the console itself, an app that simply accompanies the social features of the console would be much better idea.
@Linoshi I started using Twitter today to solve the lack of social features in Nintendo systems. It's silly that I have to do it in 2017... Let's hope the smart App answers to our needs and expectations.
