Topic: I should listen to my friends more (NX rumor)

So apparently some news on the NX broke recently

The is similar to what a friend told me awhile time ago before Nintendo ever even mentioned the NX.
My friend is a freelance graphic artist who claims to have worked on Nintendo games such as 2D textures for Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I for one, didn't believe her so I just dismissed every thing she said about what she was working on. I was talking to her over team speak, before she up and disappeared, and she said she was working on menu graphics for something called NintendoHome and NintendoGo. Her theory was that they were a home console and a handheld that could play the same games, just scaled down on the hand held, and the handheld could be used as the controller for the console.

X.x should I have paied more attention lol?

Is her name in the credits for the game? If not, then she's lying.

I assume everyone who says things like "I don't work for X but I've did work for X"
I know it's possible and I've did work for other companies but typically through another. I just assume a gaming company as big as retro and a publisher as big as nintendo wouldn't higher some random for art work.

I personally don't think it's too hard to believe as I think this is exactly how the new system will play. The handheld will be the controller and this is why they probably won't be going with disc this go around.

Actually how is this news that just broke? There have been speculations about this for quite some time. It's like me having a theory that the earth is round.

I think the only thing that is certain is that NX will have separate 3DS and Wii U successors.

Pretty much this. If the answer is no then there's not really anything to talk about, besides someone who likes to pretend their dad they work for Nintendo and happened to make an easy prediction as to Nintendo's next console.

We don't even know that. The NX could just be 1 of the systems and the other system could be under a different codename. We really know nothing about the NX, outside of it being a gaming platform.

So, the fact your friend's idea about the NX was similar to that in a rumour means she might be right? Not sure about you, but that seems like quite the jump in logic. Don't know if anything in this latest leak is even remotely true at the moment...

But yeah, try and verify if your friend really did have any involvement first. See if her name actually appears on this list:

Man, her rumor sounds like every other speculation on the NX in the internet.

Definitely looking forward to the next year of schmucks on the internet repeating previous discussion and speculation and trying to pass it off as insider info.

You say she's worked on 2D graphics for Donkey kong. Well im sure it wouldn't be to hard for anyone to work out who she is as without being sexist (and i hope im wrong) but there cant be to many ladies working on 2D textures.

If shes a friend i wouldnt have written all that information about what shes worked on. As im sure by now someone from Nintendo has read this, and IF its true will be taking action.

As long as I can buy games, physically, I don't mind the no disc drive. Whether it be cartridges that work on both the console and the handheld or whatever else they'll come up with. But I will not buy or welcome a 100% digital purchase based console. Especially not from Nintendo.

Lol well I didn't think she was telling the truth anyway. She is kind of flakey. I checked that link and no mention of her or any freelancer in the credits. I wouldn't have given it a 2nd thought, and I really didn't, but she told me this months before the NX was first anounced and with the "leak" it seemed like she might have been right. But like someone said, its a vauge and kind of generic discription of what we can expect from a future console, Just made me laugh. I'll ask her about it agian when she shows up out of nowhere needing a place to crash for awhile lol.

There's been a wealth of discussion about what we know or can speculate about NX, here, Reddit, NeoGAF, GameFAQs, and several other video game sites. Thing about every new rumour that comes out is that they all reiterate the general consensus of those discussions.

• 2,000 people on a thread agree that NX will almost certainly be a family of systems.
• Weeks later, a "leak" comes out to say that NX will be a family of systems.

Weird relationship with your friend, where you flat out dismiss them and basically call them a liar yet they remain your friend. Weird too that they didn't provide you with proof via their online portfolio or even their name in the credits, or that you didn't even check for yourself.

Weirder still at she's now apparently designing the menus for a thing she's clearly unsure as to what it is. She has theories? She's doing the UI & UX for it and she doesn't know what it is? Really? One of the most important aspects of UI design is to understand exactly what the user needs and wants to do at any given time so that they can make it a smooth and easy ride for them. You can't do that if you don't even know what the thing you're working on is.

And that website, the way they drop an ad in every other sentence, the buzzwords used and those extra details of Metroid and F-Zero? Reads to me like they're just desperate to try and hit all those notes Nintendo fans want to hear so they can spark up a comment section and rake in the money from that ridiculous amount of ads.

Not to mention, aside from the uninventive names of 'Home' and 'Go' (both already used by Sony) there's literally nothing new here. This is basically what was speculated from the get go when Iwata announced the NX was being developed.

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude. But this is all fuzzy anecdotes, buzzwords and name drops.

@DjLewe78: indeed if you look at the link @CM30: posted it lists only one female contracted artist, who's LinkdIn confirms they were working at Retro the year after DKCR released but not working on "2D textures" but in concept art. So it is feasible they were working on Tropical Freeze, though Retro did also lend a hand to MK8 and other projects at Nintendo around that time.

Still, the idea she's working on this new thing and only has "theories" on what it actually is? Very dubious about that. It's just not the sort of thing you can do properly without knowing the purpose.

@Syntech: I'm not posting her name here in case this is your friend, but based on the info you gave it took about 30seconds to find her name. In which case if she genuinely has leaked some info you might want to remove this thread as it could get her in a lot of trouble.
