I find that the Switch needs to be placed on a completely flat surface for the stand to be of use. We would probably understand your situation better if you provided photos from different angles for further perspective.

at one point he had a close up picture of the cut out hole on the screen above the microsd card slot. it looked like you could see contacts. I do not see contacts on mine BUT I have a card installed
