@SKTTR no you can't take your demo save into the actual game. You have to start a new one. NIS said it on Twitter

Just finished the demo .. about 3.5 hours total. Knew I was going to buy it beforehand , but even more sold . Game looks great docked or on handheld and all the strategy , great writing and humor are all there. Won't be finished with BOTW by the time this comes out , but I look forward to splitting time between the 2 ! To those who are on the fence due to complicated gameplay .. the game let's you go at your pace and has tutorials and help all over the place accessible at anytime . You will figure it out . Don't miss out on a huge wacky rewarding game !

I think Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence was released on PC and PS4 in the west on retail.

I just noticed that the other day. To my surprise, I saw a PS4 copy in-store. Dirt cheap too (which probably isn't the best sign for a niche title like this).

SKTTR wrote:

Do you know if the Japanese retail versions of Nobunaga and Romance have English screentext?

Japanese only. Besides, if they included English text, then an English-language release would have been announced, if not released, by now.

@sillygostly

Even Romance of the Three Kindoms XIII for PS4 was released in Europe and USA last year.
Well, it's a shame the Wii U versions never launched in the west, but being left out again on Switch is getting disappointing. The games are finished and released on Switch (and Wii U) in Japan and are translated to English and released in the west on PC and PS4, so what's the problem releasing it on Switch in the west as well? Like, manufacturing 100.000 Switch gamecards for the US and EU market? If they go for 39,99€ I'm buying day one. Switch needs games. Why not filling out the western library with some new, deeper, and still great experiences? I mean, those are beloved series with millions of fans in Japan at least, and a good fanbase in the west as well.

@FGPackers

Thank you. I will wait until I have the full game then. I guess the full game starts like the demo, so the first couple of hours will be just replaying the content of the demo. If there was a way to transfer the save file, like Etrian Odyssey, then I would grind a bit and then continue into the full version.

100,000 is a very ambitious and unrealistic number for titles like these. You should bear in mind that not all games are destined to be "best sellers" as the overwhelming majority of games will sell in only modest quantities (especially in this post-smartphone market). The last Romance of the Three Kingdoms game sold under 8,000 copies in Japan in its first week, and I can't imagine the lifetime sales being much higher than that, especially in the West as Romance and Nobunaga's Ambition are about as Japanese as strategy games get. Furthermore, games like this are likely to be stocked only by very few stores due to their niche appeal.

There's certainly an enduring market and an adoring fanbase for these games, yes, but it's a rather small one. It's disheartening that they don't appear to be coming to international markets, but maybe in time, once the install base increases to the point that a Western release would be sustainable.

Doesn't matter if it's 100.000 or just 10.000 copies. They know what to expect and could produce in small numbers as well. It seems Koei Tecmo always needs Nintendo to step in before releasing a game on retail. It's what happened with the last two Project Zero games and Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge. Whatever the risk is of releasing those two games (Nobunaga and RotK13) in a small number for Switch in the west, they could at least make them available for download in all regions.

Disgaea 5 Complete is standing bold in that scenario, being the quirky colorful fantasy game coming from the relatively unknown Nippon Ichi Software / NIS America. The only other game I have from NIS America is Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love for Wii, a game I really like as well, so I'm gonna support and buy Disgaea 5 Complete at the end of the month - hope, there are still copies left then.

I can access only one level in the demo, whereas I'm seeing some of you guys got 5?
Does not bode well for me when I play the full game. 😅

@Fandabidozi I think you go back to the same level at first, and then it starts opening new levels after you clear it.

Well, I went ahead and ordered this from Amazon, because I have a feeling it will be hard to find if I wait too long. Looking forward to many hours of tinkering with equipment and party composition.

I instead hope it will get a price cut in the future

I couldn't resist and grabbed the demo even though I'm getting the physical copy tomorrow anyway. Didn't play too far since there was no rush, but I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. Everything feels 300% more polished than Disgaea 3 which felt really rough and old school.

Only annoying mechanic is I keep wanting to use the D-pad to move the cursor and it does NOT move in the direction I expect it to That and I keep undoing my move commands when I try to back out of the top level menu...

@SKTTR Supposedly the game sells better in the west than in Japan for some reason I don't understand. Persona is similar in that regard. So releasing physical here isn't a risk for Disgaea, it's the main market (And it paid off, Switch pre-orders already exceed PS4 total sales!)

@ncfcrulz FF is a JRPG, this is an SRPG, so you'd find it more similar to Final Fantasy: Tactics or Fire Emblem. Though "similar" might be a stretch

I know, it's always a gamble, but I feel like this is a lot like all the Atlus titles I love on 3DS, where the price never goes down more than a couple of dollars until the game is almost impossible to find. Better safe than sorry, and by ordering now I got the Amazon Prime discount.

My first Disgaea and I'm enjoying it. Makes me miss the Sega Saturn lol.

@JasmineDragon You did well ordering it. IIRC a few weeks ago NIS said they had sold out 80% of their inventory, at least for the first print, assuming second. This will be a hard to find physical game at least for a while I'd guess.

Edit: Just realized that was a post from Monday. Oh well!

@JasmineDragon NIS doesn't do the most robust pressings in the world. They are borderline first come first serve and aftermarket tends to spike their value needlessly since they are niche.

I don't think Disgaea 5 was hard to find on PS4, but in general, if you're worried about stock, it's always best to grab niche games as soon as they come out. Call of Duty: Ghost Soldier and Assassin's Creed 10 will still be plentiful in four years, but that weird Japanese RPG might be long out of stock.

@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, that's what I suspected. Apparently the game is selling well on Amazon, too. I didn't get a shipping confirmation until five minutes ago.

@Ralizah I can't speak for 5 but I remember 4 almost stealth released and then vanished just as quickly where I was living at the time. I had to get it used several months later because I couldn't find a new copy without markup.

@Ryu_Niiyama I can never find almost any of the niche games I get locally. Then again, I rarely look, either, since I get almost all my games online.

Only time I've struggled to find a game was Splatoon right after it first came out. Didn't preorder it, but the glowing user comments convinced me to find a copy ASAP. Stores around me understocked it, I think, not expecting it to be so popular. Had to go way out of town to find a copy locally.
