@Magician And I can allegedly walk down the street and punch everyone in the face as I walk by. Am I?? No of course not. Let's just face it Sony is just upset cause MS beat them to it that's all it is.

@Tasuki I do think this will delay the entire process, yes. Lawsuits take time to process.

@Magician lol Hasn't it been a regular practice for CoD to be "degraded" on Xbox since last gen, in terms of PS4 players gaining access to maps and whatnot earlier than on rival platforms? Paying for preferential treatment with every new iteration is just business as usual, but buying the company and giving customers on your own platform preferential treatment is anti-competitive?

@Ralizah Yeah. I thought the second reply to the FTC's tweet was priceless.

It’s a bit much that their argument hinges on what MS might do vs anything that they have done. Meanwhile MS hammered out deals (even if at this point they are symbolic) that would keep COD multiplat for another decade.

Historically the courts have ruled that vertical mergers do not negatively impact an industry enough to restrict a merger. Microsoft absorbing Activision/Blizzard is like the fate of THQ. Ten years from now, this will all be in the rear view mirror and the game industry will be just fine.

It really doesn’t help that Sony and Microsoft have very different philosophies when it comes to gaming. In recent years, Sony is focused on the story while Microsoft is focused on community experiences. Activision/Blizzard is a better fit with Microsoft’s agenda considering their business models are almost entirely supported by games as a service at this point.

I really don't get why this is suddenly a bigger deal than other acquisitions.

@Wilforce You're right, but Sony bought Bungie to give them access to the expertise needed to build big multiplayer online games, they have 10 multiplayer games in development right now...

Sony could never have bought Activision, this is an acquisition so far beyond their means, what they are doing is their only option for stopping it.
