Ok, so I have the money to buy either a WiiU or a 3DS XL. I've read a lot of places that the 3DS is the better console at the moment, which I believe to be true. I own about 17 or 18 games for my 3DS and I play it on a regular basis. But there are a few games on the WiiU I want or I'm looking forward to. I definitely want a WiiU in the future, but I can't decide on now or later. Again, I do have a normal sized 3DS- but I think I would get a lot of use out of an upgrade. Disregarding the price difference, I want to know what everyone else thinks would be the best choice for me. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I just can't decide which one to go with at the moment!

Get a wii u. 3ds XL is almost the same as a normal 3ds except for bigger screen, more battery, and more memory. Wii u is the better choice considering the big games out and coming for the wii u like Super mario 3d world, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario kart 8 (coming soon), and super smash bros 4 wii u version (also coming soon).

Yeah get a U. I love my xl and it brings so much to the table for all your old games again just fir it's sheer size but you already have a way to play those games so......get a U!
When I faced that issue, I ended up getting both consoles. With that said, I got the 3DS at launch, a Wii U on January 13 and the XL on October.
To answer your question, go with Wii U. It is true that overall the 3DS has better games and support, but you technically own that system already, so the change won't feel as big as having a new console, with HD graphics and the Gamepad. There are many good Wii U games that make it worth it, and MK8 is just a month away anyway.
