@StArHaMa The version of Blade Runner I saw was the final cut. That's the version I'd go with. I have not seen the new one.

@StArHaMa I saw the original in the 80s and the directors cut later. Blade Runner 2049 is one of the best films I have ever seen. It is absolutely gorgeous and does the original justice. Conjures up all the emotions and questions of the first one.

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

@StArHaMa I'm another one who has so far just seen the Director's Cut (multiple times). I may have the Final Cut somewhere, but my (grown-up) DVDs rarely make it out of the box these days. Haven't seen 2049 yet, but I've heard very positive things from people who are even bigger fans than I am.

Magician

Sorry for the necro-bump, but after seeing that advertisements have begun for yet another Cyrano remake, I thought it would be best to pull up the classic. Jose Ferrer is a legend. Please give it a watch.

This thread's back? Let me just put my favourite movie ever made here as well: Hot Fuzz.

It's probably the definition of a perfect movie in my eyes. I can rewatch it over and over again, laugh almost every time and notice something I hadn't seen before as well. It's on Netflix (at least here in the UK/Ireland) so if you haven't watched it, please do so. It's the one film I recommend to almost everyone who I talk to.

Other honorable mentions for me include Spider-Man Homecoming, The Lego Movie and Shaun of the Dead.

I didn't know there was another movie thread! But i am not sure i can decide for the actual best ones: here are some from the top of my head i remember and i would be quite surprised if everyone of those are known in here as some of these are quite niche, so here goes in no particular order:
I should also most of those are for the age 16 +

  • Atlantis(ŠŃ‚Š»Š°Š½Ń‚ŠøŠ“Š°, 2019): This one is a dystopian kinda sci-fi movie about a retired soldier with PTSD, roaming around East-Ukraine. The camera and imagery in this i consider borderline genius, it just so happens that the topic actually became quite popular in recent days too.
  • Parasite(źø°ģƒģ¶©, 2019): This should be well known since it won the Oscar 2019 for best movie and was simultaneously the first non-English language film who achieved that feat and it certainly deserves the spot. It's a great thriller with some black humor and social criticism sprinkled in. It also has some nice twists to ensure that you don't get bored halfway.
  • Her (2013): My personal modern favorite when it comes to artificial intelligence and its interaction with humans in the near future. It hits really close at home i think, and "her" character is really interesting and its an intriguing love story.
  • His Girl Friday(1940): This one is a great classic for me and its one of the fastest comedies i know, it might be a bit of a cynical humor at times but if you don't mind that, then you have got yourself one of the best comedies if you are in for the quick word jokes fired at every corner.
  • Rashomon (ē¾…ē”Ÿé–€, 1950): yet another old but gold movie, aged like poor wine since the focus lies on the story. The way it is told actually shaped a lot of later movies and is called "Rashomon-effect" just to give some random trivia. Really though, it is about humans, lies and features one of the most gritty and humane swordfight i can imagine in that time.
  • The Big Blue (Le grand bleu, 1988): Just a really good drama story about two Divers competing about being the best. It sounds a bit bland on paper but saying anything more would be spoiling the best parts. It features one of my favorite actors: Jean Reno and has beautiful scenes of the mediterranean sea, i can understand it being a bit unsatisfying for some but i loved it!

And that's that, hope this thread stays alive!

Revenge of the sith: obi wan vs Anakin is my all time favorite fight and ending to a movie

Spider-Man 2: it didnā€™t need to bring back every character people are nostalgic for, but was able to become one of the best superhero movies on its own

@Fizza I dunno, Hot Fuzz is a great film but I wouldnā€™t say itā€™s perfect. I always have a problem with the ending of reaching a climax and then suddenly itā€™s shoving in the bomb fake out. Itā€™s like having a big dinner, finishing it and feeling full but then another course comes out for you to it eat.

Missing are Kubrick, Scorcese, Fassbinder, more Lynch, more Haneke, Moodysson, Noe, Passolini, Fellini. No Troma on there either!

Blade runner 2049 was rubbish.

Yay, favorite movies!
1. Interstellar
This might be the only movie Iā€™d consider perfect. Nearly 3 hours of gripping story, perfect visuals, and a heartbreaking soundtrack on top of that. The story it tells is one of love and heart-wrenching loss and seeing those you love grow up. AND ITS FREAKING SCI-FI ON TOP OF THAT. dang Nolan and Zimmerā€™s best work imo.

2. Star Wars (Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One)
It is a period of art. Rebels, spaceships all in a movie.

Opening crawl references aside, Star Wars is such a blissful franchise if you let yourself become a kid again. That being said, Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One are just straight up brilliant movies. These movies are a masterclass in space romance with dope wizards that wield laser swords. The thing that these movies do best: making Darth Vader scary. I hope weā€™ll ever get something like that in this franchise once again.

P.s. John Williams is a my favorite for making these soundtracks.

3. Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse

Wow. 23 years after toy story is release Into the Spiderverse makes maybe the biggest leap for animated movies since the Pixar movie was released. Spiderverse does so much to make me love it. Miles personality feels so REAL, both in his animation and performance. The comedy in Spiderverse is both genuinely funny and endearing to the characters. The music is iconic and unique for animated movies while perfectly personifying the character of New York City. This is a movie Iā€™ll never get tired of watching.

Across the spiderverse, is by-far my most highly anticipated movie right now.

4. Dune

Maybe the most sci-fi movie to ever sci-fi, but man, its so cool. In 20 years people may say that we love this movie just because of the CGI, but honestlyā€¦. okay, fair. Other than the bonkers CGI this movieā€™s lore grabs me and doesnā€™t let go. The weird tensions between the worldā€™s people groups and the allure of the spice keep hold the moviesā€™ otherwise slow pacing into a beautiful little bundle.

5. Knives Out

Knives Out has some of the best moments in modern cinema that Iā€™ve ever seen. Holy cow, the storytelling of the plot twists are so incredible that it makes the movie better each time I watch it. Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armasā€™s performances and brilliant direction carry this movie so far.

Honorable Mentions:
Wall-E
Isle of Dogs
Hacksaw Ridge

I'm mostly an animated movie kind of guy, I just love cartoons and animation. My favorite movies in no particular order, Trolls and its sequel Trolls World Tour, Pinocchio, Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius, Frozen and Frozen II, Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, and Smurfs The Lost Village. There's probably more, but I've always enjoyed watching these movies.

@Sunsy The Princess and the Frog is so underrated, that's one of my favourite animated Disney movies easily.

@Fizza I very much agree with this. It's such a good movie, and I don't know many who seen it or even talked about it. A friend of mine saw it for the first time recently and loved it.
