This is a thread for writers to talk about all things related to the creative writing process and possibly share their works for critique, much like the Artists Thread, but with regards to the written word. If you're writing something and need some tips, feedback, perhaps even an idea or two to get past writer's block, feel free to share below.
As for myself, I love making stories...and never writing them down. I'm gonna change that soon, as I'd like to write a few short stories in 2014. Don't expect much from them, though - I was never a good english student, and if I hold myself to high standards, I'll be too afraid to start.
Am I the only one who tries to keep their stories PG when possible? At the very least I'll have an easier time here...you know, if/when I actually have something written down.
In fact, those short stories I mentioned might be tough, since most of the ones I've come up with for the past few years have centered around a specific group of characters and their many wild adventures, whose backstories have become a little too complex to be appropriate for a short story...unless handled correctly, which I may not have the skills to pull off just yet. So I'm going to have to start from scratch, which is fine, since that's why I'm writing them in the first place.
So...if nobody has anything to share, perhaps we could start off with basic tips?
I know I tend to find it difficult to start a story, so aside from the usual advice of Brainstorming and outlining, I recommend simply not worrying about how it starts so long as you have something to build off of. Once your ideas come together a little more, it'll be easier to go back to the beginning and revise things (so long as you're not publishing something in parts, anyways...). Basically you're writing a riough draft to start, so of course you can try again later and refine things. I know it sounds basic, rough drafts are a big part of many art forms, I find it's easy to forget, and once you remember that it doesn't have to perfect the first time, things get a lot easier.
I sorta/kinda have a story in the works. I've gotten the beginning chapter and a later chapter mostly finished, but that's it. Plus it hasn't been touched in months. Heck, I haven't even thought of a name for it yet.
I really want to actually continue writing it though. Maybe that'll be my new year resolution or something. If anyone is interesting I can discuss what it's about.

For those curious, Guardians Unchained is a series I'm working on comprised of the main story (still under construction) and several other short stories I'll interject with the characters here and there. The backdrop is supposed to be that of a fantasy world in a modern era (a setup which I intend to elaborate upon later on in the story).
The same format applies to most of the works I am writing (Starship Crusader, Trinity of Time, Children of Eden, etc.), so be on the lookout for that whenever I decide to share something. Also, I tend to experiment with different POVs depending on the tale I wish to tell.
Here's a story, that I made (One of my catchphrases?). This story was something I wrote as a prequel too a Flipnote on Flipnote Hatena, if you want to read it, then here's a link.
