Topic: The Doctor Who Thread

So, anyone Doctor Who fans here? Just finished watching the second part of the Christmas special and thought it was pretty good. Definitely one of the better ones this series, gotta love John Simms.
First impressions of the new Doctor are good too, although I'm a bit worried he seems to be pretending to be David Tennant a little too much rather than making his own character. I guess we'll see next series.
Hopefully no more Catherine Tate now too =D

Damn living in america. They Screwed over the Doctor who, torchwood, and primeval so bad in this country. I still haven't seen DW series 4 and have only seen the first 2 episodes of TW and PE. But

Yeah same. There's gonna be a hell of lot of nightmare fuel in this series if Steven Moffat's previous episodes are anything to go by. Remember 'Blink'? That scared the crap outta me xD
As much as I liked Russell T Davies's storylines, he seemed to be flagging a bit with the special episodes this year and the previous series. Doctor Who's always been a bit corny by definition but some of the latest episodes were pretty painful. Then again, these 2 'The End Of Time' episodes rocked. John Simm and Bernard Cribbins are fantastic actors, I hope they both make appearances again. Sad to see Tennant finally bow out though

I haven't seen the new stuff but I used to watch Doctor Who when I was a kid. Man, I was obsessed with this show. My favorite Doctor was Tom Baker. I used to dream of owning my very own Tardis and I wanted K-9 as my pet.

I should probably check out the new series since I hear it is quite good too.

Yeah, saw the trailer, it was aired on TV not long after the episode was. Looks promising.
Yay, the Daleks are back. Although to be honest that feels a bit like saying "Yay, Bowser's back" for a new Mario game, it was pretty obviously gonna happen. And presumably the Cybermen. And more John Simm just for simple awesome points. I liked Simm throughout both of the episodes, but yeah, his series 3 episodes were the best. Just because he decimates the planet whilst dancing. Possibly the greatest-yet-slightly-WTF moment ever.

I'm sorry to say this as I know it has many fans, but I can't stand Doctor Who. Even when I was a child I could see straight through it. All I see when I watch it are cheap effects and bad production. I really wish the BBC weren't wasting so much money on badly made programs like Doctor Who, Torchwood (which is even worse), Merlin, etc...

Boooo you suck etc. =P
But nah, I understand the complaint, it's definitely one of those love-it-or-hate-it things. The dodgy effects and storylines are part of the charm, though. By sci-fi standards it sucks, but it knows that it sucks so it has a lot of fun taking the mickey out of itself - like the Daleks. They're basically armed with a rubber plunger and a whisk; and are frequently buggered by the concept of stairs. So naturally they're represented as one of the most dangerous races in the universe. Hmm.
Can't comment on the old series though, never watched it. Although I'm no fan of Torchwood either. Or Merlin. That really sucks.

I've never been a fan of sci-fi Tv shows such as Star Trek or Dr Who or any of the beeb's drama? series such as Torchwood or Merlin, they just don't do anything for me, from the clips I have seen though the new guy seems alright but I think a lot of Tennant lovers won't give him a chance and have written him off already.

Catherine Tate really grinds my gears, she is really not funny, copied 1/2 her ideas on her sketch show from Little Britain and was stupid and annoying on Never Mind the Buzzcocks Dr Who Special the other week.

Yeah, I didn't like the series with Tate in it. I'm also disappointed that she didn't dramatically explode as promised in these two episodes

This seems to be a more serious doctor then The tenth. Also just watched the water of mars and it was epic about to watch voyage of the damned and start on series 4. Also when the hell is the doctor going to be in torchwood.

BTW the 11th doctor wardrobe sucks.

I would only want the Doctor to appear in Torchwood if he was important to the plot. I would hate it for the Doctor to show up for no apparent reason.

Saw the final Tenant ep this weekend, and i have to say i am genuinely going to miss him playing The Doctor. I almost starting welling up during the final scenes -- his fairwell "tour" -- especially when he delivers the "I don't want to go" line.

Smith was surely aping Tenant a bit in the final scene, but that was actually apreciated -- l like when a new Doctor initially retains some character ticks of the old actor before the new actor finds his own "voice" as the character; it adds to the whole regeneration concept.

And btw, i actually enjoyed Donna Noble. Of course, i never had seen Catherine Tate before she appeared on Who; i know a lot of Brits don't like her and some resented her appearing on Who just on principle.

Also since each doctor is a new person does his love for rose change because i thonght that it was passed onfrom the nineth to the tenth. Also the new companion looks like she will be a love intreast and i'm getting a rose kinda vibe from her.

I wish there could have been a short season (or even just another special or two) with Wilfred as the companion. Cribbins and Tenant had such a great chemistry, acting-wise as well as character-wise.

Ugh, i hate having to wait for new Who. Especially after BBC America ran a Tenant-Who marathon all New Year's weekend leading up to the finale.
