Dr. Nick says "Hi Everybody", so dat means this must be Mr. Doctor Professor Patrick!

I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!

I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!

Turns out not only did the store I'm in break the revenue record it set on opening day just a week later, but over that first week became the top grossing store in the entire company for the week too.

And I am exhausted.

Played some Twilight Princess earlier, thawed out Zora’s Domain and filled the light vessel. I’d forgotten just how dark some parts of the game are. That cutscene with people upside down. Creepy.

That's one of my favorite cutscenes in the entire series! Different sections of this game definitely provide plenty of nightmare fuel.

It's not often that you'll find me referencing South Park, but wasn't there an episode about Jersey taking over the US? I've only seen clips someone sent me.

@hobbitgamer oh yeah that was easily the most disturbing cutscene NIntendo ever did. Though they actually do a lot of disturbing cut-scenes. Also The girl with the mirror in the snow area. There were a few other really dark things. The first time you go to the steampunk town with the bomb shop and all the kids are cowering in the house still stands out as purely the darkest part of the game though.

Somehow that still keeps coming up as one of my favorite zeldas. 2D zelda still needs to win though.

Yeah, Twilight Princess manages to follow OOT closely while also being completely unique in tone and atmosphere. It's one of those games I come back to every other year or so.

I think that TP and MM could definitely go head-to-head for "darkest Zelda entry".

There are even things in MM that scared me as a kid when they didn't really attend to. Like the bird that steals your stuff before the Woodfall entrance in the overworld, pretty much everything about the Great Bay Temple, that one gecko enemy that rides on a snapping turtle etc.

Oh joy, another article on how video games make kids violent:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2018/10/01/violent-v...

But I love when articles do this sort of corollary:
The analysis of 24 studies from countries including the U.S., Canada, Germany and Japan found those who played violent games such as "Grand Theft Auto," "Call of Duty" and "Manhunt" were more likely to exhibit behavior such as being sent to the principal's office for fighting or hitting a non-family member.

No, playing video games don't make you violent. People who play those video games are fairly deficient to begin with. It's a mass market lowest common denominator drivel that while it appeals to some normal people, disproportional appeals to large groups of people that already have "issues." The article eventually addresses that....near the very end....

@KryptoniteKrunch MM is 100% pure nightmare fuel from beginning to end though. TP was just sometimes dark. MM is warped and twisted in a dark carnival sort of way. TP is sometimes disturbing. MM revels in the idea that no matter how twisted and disturbing it seems all of this is 100% normal......you need to join the madness.

@Octane Picture an entire game about Trevor from GTAV only without the humor. Any of it.

It's kind of a spinoff from GTA (and references GTA locations) that exists as a survival horror with a deranged serial killer. It was famed for excessively graphic violence....not just hack and slash but very individual torturous murders.

Then again, that was before TLOU2 brought torture porn into the mainstream....

Yeah I saw that article this morning. Even though its actually just a compilation of previous data, so there's no real control group. Basically like pulling a Metacritic on hundreds of people's term papers
I did notice that at least the researcher being interviewed pointed out 'maybe we should look at how, why, and to what degree the consumption makes a difference, rather than blaming it'. That was refreshing. Ya know, like real research.

Manhunt is... interesting. I played Manhunt 2 on the Wii, which definitely made for a more visceral experience than PS2 with the motion controls. I think the story was that you wake up a patient/inmate somewhere and you're trying to escape, but whatever experimentation they did on you has triggers. Kinda like CIA MK Ultra-esque ideas. I'd be amazed to meet anyone that's a casual (read: doesn't keep up with) gamer that has played it or is aware of it. It originally got an AO classing, then Rockstar took some things out, blurred some stuff, and it released as M in most places.

Meanwhile, Quentin Tarentino does his thing and nobody blinks. And a risque outfit on a female character in a video game has the censors outraged while Game of Thrones does what it does.

What I find amusing is rarely is it "mentally well adjusted child of wealthy family with solid future ahead turned to life of crime and murder due to playing video games."

It's always "poor ghetto kid with no future and abusive family" or "kid with extensive mental and behavioral history" that magically gets turned to the dark side of murder and drugs by playing Battlefield.

Video games are a poison of young minds. All they do is teach them how to be violent. That's where all the hate comes from. We need to go back to the good old says when kids had solid role models in life like O.J. Simpson and Ted Kennedy.

This again eh?

I mean I turned out fine. Video games were what STOPPED me being like these studies suggest.

If I didnt have those worlds Id have buried half of the people who ever bullied me in school due to the horrific things they did.

But I didnt because I knew back home was a world I could explore or save.

Hahahaha I love it. Pretty on point. Every time a news report mentions that someone was a gamer, I look at my mother and say "See? I turned out alright after all, didn't I?"
Ah, Ted.

@Knuckles-Fajita And if you ever finally snap and kill someone we'll all be subjected to 24/7 loops of your streaming channel on every TV network worldwide highlighting how it was video games that poisoned your mind and made you do it.....

@NEStalgia To give them some credit, after playing Spider-Man I've been zipping around town, beating up criminals, and exposing gang members. So there's some merit to the cause and effect of video games.
