Well this is escalating. The hack apparently will cost Sony half a billion dollars. Sony has also said that they do plan on distributing The Interview eventually, while theater chains are pissed off at Sony for blaming them for the movie's initial cancellation. On a larger scale, North Korea warns of strikes against the US if Obama "keeps recklessly spreading rumors about them being behind the hack".

So apparently we may (God forbid) soon be able to say that WWIII started over a Seth Rogen comedy....

In response to the bolded:

North Korea makes threats just like that all the time (once a few years ago, they used images from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to display how they were going to crush the US, lol), and nothing ever comes of it because they don't have the military infrastructure to invade an ant hill, let alone the US.

Seriously though, South Korea & Japan are the only nations close enough to be in any sort of danger from them, and even then, they couldn't do anything without the help of China, who won't do anything either, because trade with the west is currently going well for them, economically.

It's all but assured that NK had China's assistance with the hacking as well, which shouldn't be surprised since China has been hacking US computer systems for years (and probably the other way as well).

Apparently Sony will release The Interview for free on Crackle. Sony also has picked up its 5th class action lawsuit over failure to secure personal information. The leaked information showed that Sony was keeping passwords to important internal accounts in a file named "passwords"....

oh, man. source on that? because that's hilarious.

I work in IT and I can't believe how incredibly stupid this is. Time for Sony to find some competent IT people...

Wow....that's very stupid of them and hilarious at the same time.
No company would put all of their passwords in a folder named the same thing.

This is what i was telling a friend the other day, it's really stupid of sony to have info like this, they should have learned after previous hacks and gotten a better protective firewall.
