Well there were robots in Skyward Sword, it's just tech seemingly then went backwards.
Of course, it's likely really because changing the series to have a more modern setting or advanced technology would lose quite a bit of its appeal to people.
I'd dig a Steampunk Zelda game.
me too, but anything more advanced than it would spoil the fun

Not all societys advance like ours has. Looks at the Native Indians in NA. They didn't advance that much over time and payed for it when Settlers came. They also might be advancing is a way different than ours too. Maybe they are discovering things different than guns, computers, and etc.
In twilight Princess Auru used a rocket launcher at hyrule castle. What do you have to say about THAT?!
Rocket launchers were made by the chinese cavemen along with the first spaceship while the europeans were still fighting with swords and shields....

Just see what happened to Final Fantasy
not really, they just stopped making Final Fantasy games, to make Final Fantasy "interactive" movies but a print error left it tagged as game, and they decided to stick with it!

Maybe its because Nintendo doesn't really follow a true timeline and they just make good Zelda games for everybody to enjoy? That surely explains a lot on why the timeline is a confusing mess.
Nintendo DIDN'T follow any timeline, now it's trying to follow, since they had to create it anyway, as it's easier than rethinking it and making the fans who care about it mad

The aliens made the Cow Mangler 2000! Which the soldier from TF2 uses as a rocket launcher replacement! And the Aliens in Majoras Mask stole cows! And Majoras Mask is in Twilight Princess's timeline! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!
Who needs machine guns and plasma swords when you have a good old fashioned sword and shield? Problem with Zelda games is that they lose appeal if the game starts introducing technology. Besides, it needs that traditional, timeless sword, shield and bows... if it went too far ahead with technology, it just wouldn't be Zelda.
The problem is you assume its going to mean future Zelda. You can keep a mostly traditional setting and have technology slowly advance. Fable II did it pretty wellm keeping a mix between the two. (Fable III on the other hand went two far into the industrial revolution for my taste.
You must have missed the last part of my post. There's nothing wrong with Zelda having technology introduced into the games and Skyward Sword is a good example of this. It's just when the game starts pushing technology a lot more rather than being the traditional Zelda we all know and love. As long as they keep a fine balance, then it could help the series grow into a wider audience.
Remember world maps? Ahh, world maps. Where did you go?
Personally, I think FFX is the most overrated game in the series. Even apart from the entire cast being irritating as hell, I'm not sure how "let's remove world maps and replace them with a long series of hallways with a GPS telling you exactly where to go next" made it past R&D.
I look at Fire Emblem the same way. Just look at the difference between Shadow Dragon, the first game, and Awakening, the latest. Oh wait, besides change in fashion the two aren't really that different whatsoever, and there is over a thousand year separation between them. You'd think that a thousand years would wield some sort of advanced tech.
I also find the timeline of FE weird in general. I used to think that certain games were in entirely separate universes, but then Priam in Awakening is obviously Ike's descendant, and the Radiant series is considered separate from Altea's timeline. I don't know, it's just very odd.
Well yeah, but Priam was a non-canon SpotPass character, one of many.
And the lack of technological advance between Shadow Dragon and Awakening really isn't that odd, as swords were the most common weapon for about 4,000 years in the real world. Electricity has only existed for like 0.1% of human history.
