Topic: Nintendo’s Pokemon release plans?

I think for the most of us the last few Pokemon Presents were disappointing. They focused on mobile games instead of console games. What do you guys think of the following:
1. Do you think we will eventually get original Gen 1-3 on Switch or the successor console? What do you think is holding them back so far from announcing and releasing them when they can just sell them to us for easy money?
2. Do you think we will eventually get Gen 5 remake?
3. Why do you think Nintendo has been announcing Pokemon mobile games for most of Presents lately? I think they know we want console games.

1. They could still happen, but previous situations have shown that the Pokémon Company tends to do a bunch of things that seem to only make sense to them (even if they would benefit from doing otherwise). I wouldn't be surprised if they are still pondering if they could gain more from selling them individually Vs. adding them to the Switch Online.
2. It's almost certain it will happen, but not until the Switch 2 (or whatever it will be called) has been out for a while.
3. Because the number of people that absolutely don't care about those mobile games are considerably outnumbered by those that do (who for the most part are very quiet online).

@Don I mean... the new legends game is gen 6 related, so next remake will presumably be gen 6 rather than gen 5. There is at least a chance that game will come out this Fall if they are following the Brilliant Diamond/Arceus schedule.

As for early gens, since there is already a gen 1 remake on Switch, I doubt they would stick the original game on Switch also, especially since they don't seem interested in putting mainline Pokemon on NSO

This is what we wanted. After the disastrous release of Scarlet/Violet it became clear that Game Freak can not sustain the tight release schedule of a mainline game Every year. It was even acknowledged by Nintendo that they are "taking fan feedback seriously," so if we have to wait longer to get a good quality game and not another half-baked hackjob like S/V I am fine with it. "Take your time."

Hey there’s nothing half baked about any of the Pokémon games in my opinion. It’s more like your the one that is half baked.

From a software quality point of view I entirely agree. But as much as I want to agree with this, those games were not disasters. They still comfortably sold more than 20mill units. They're the third best selling games in the history of Pokemon behind Red/Blue/Green and Sword/Shield. Disastrous is not the word to describe those games

In terms of the Pokemon release plans? I think there's a very strong chance that the NSO push for this year is Pokemon. I don't think we'll see a new system land before the Switch 2 happens outside of maybe going deeper into Sega's history (Master System, Game Gear). I think next year will potentially be Wii/GC/DS or something and maybe Switch 2 only. But I think this year, the NSO push when renewals tick over, will be Pokemon. Maybe not all of them but Red/Blue and Gold/Silver? Sure, I think it makes sense

I think Z-A is probably their next big game and that's not this year. It's possibly a Switch/Switch 2 cross platform release but I'm not expecting it to be heavily Switch 2. I expect GameFreak to be relatively slow to adopt Switch 2. Z-A is, I think, an early 2025 title that might even come out before Switch 2 launches. Then the next mainline Pokemon game is probably late 2025 and I'm not expecting that to be particularly Switch 2 focused either

For this year? With Z-A being potentially early next year I wouldn't bet on much for the tail end of this year. I think this is a relatively quiet year for Pokemon. If I was to guess I'd think we're probably going to get some spin-off title of some kind. I know a lot of those tend to land on mobile these days but.... maybe it could be on Switch. What it would be if it was a revived spin-off they've done before? No idea. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon maybe?

@skywake Well said, my phrasing was off. "Disastrous state" would have been more accurate, as the games still sold like hotcakes. It's Pokemon, so people are going to buy it regardless of what anyone says, critical or otherwise. As someone who has bought every main Pokemon game at launch since Red/Blue, this one really broke my heart. Even putting aside the fact that the game is effectively unfinished from a technical perspective, this one was the first that was just not fun to play for me. There are some good story ideas in there but the execution is just underdeveloped. It was the first that didn't feel like a "Pokemon game" to me (and I even enjoyed the divisive Sword/Shield). Game Freak is clearly an extremely talented pool of game devs, and this is backed by their otherwise spotless track record. It has become clear that an annual release schedule is simply not sustainable, and I say let them cook.

@Don not Nintendo, but Pokémon Company does all those new Pokémon games announcements/reveals only. And no new Pokémon game was announced/revealed via Nintendo, maybe Detective Pikachu Returns, but it was first announced on 2019 end of May at Pokémon Press Conference, so. Pokémon Present (not how stating Nintendo Presents) is for all Pokémon news not announcements of new games including still running games with new content like Mobile ones, so.
On another side last month Pokémon Pokémon Company and ILCA made new Subsidary Company in same building where ILCA is for helping making Pokémon games and to make Pokémon games on they own called Pokémon Works, plus some leigt leakers, aka 95%+ accurate leakers, heard only about Unova game/remakes before PLZA reveal, so it's possible for Gen 5 remakes. Because usually nowadays remakes/reboots are revealed at May/June besides BDSP which took place in same region as another revealed game at that time aka PLA, so.

Unfortunately, I don't work with any of the companies so I can't tell you their planned release table, you'll just have to wait for official news.
