The wii can't do multiple functions kranything non gaming wise. So its not a tablet in the same sense as an ipad or surface. Its portable nor will it have any uses that I could use I while not gaming or entertainment functions.

Anyways, I hate that people are comparing this to the Ipad. This is a desktop/tablet hybrid, they've said this. This thing will be a powerhouse and priced outrageously.
The Ipad isn't trying to be a desktop, it's 100% a tablet. They're not comparable. Despite all this, this Windows thing looks nice, I'm just very interested in the price. If it's as good as it sounds tech-wise, it will not be reasonably priced, to say the least.
I'm honestly amazed anyone thinks this thing looks good. But then I'm amazed people like those stupid tiles OS of Micrsoft's.
AlexSays is probably right - this thing probably shouldn't be compared to the iPad in hindsight. Microsoft's probably done things smart by pricing it for high end power users. That 1% of the market or thereabouts is the only space anything has to compete with the iPad, because power is the one thing the iPad doesn't do outrageously well.
I'm not going to bother with it, though. I can't stand Microsoft's approach to design.
The overall inpressions are saying its a really great device.
Yes, by the technology press.
Here's the truth (fortunate or unfortunate, depending on where you stand): tech people tend to be blown away by features and such that normal people couldn't give a stuff about. The Windows phone also had very positive impressions in the press, but has utterly failed to capitalise in the market. Why? Because Microsoft has absolutely no clue how to design a product or interface that will appeal to anyone but tech people. Microsoft is the new Linux.
There is no way on this planet this tablet is going to be commercially successful on a mass scale. It'll find its niches, but it's going to be late to market, and far more expensive than an incumbent that has a near monopoly on the segment. Those two facts are killer blows, and not even Microsoft has the resources to combat that.
Very visually appealing. I used to love the interface of the Zune HD, but then I got an iPhone. The Metro interface is better to look at, but at the end of the day iOS is more functional and customizable. As much as I loved the Zune interface, for some reason the iOS is just better. I'd like to try this out though.
I have an old laptop. It's an inspiron 1525 from Dell. Do you think this would be able to replace this? My computer's a pretty poor computer, and I love the metro design on my Windows Phone 7. Would this tablet be able to work like a laptop, and is it as powerful or more powerful than my computer?

Oh I know full well that what the tech press likes doesn't always match up witht the consumer space. But personally id rather there still be viable alternatives. Windows 8 as awhole is going to be successful eitherway but I'm expectingon tablets its going to become #2 to the ipad.
I dunno the people I've shown metro too liked it and instantly got it. But I'm not the majority and when I try to explain to my friends the differences about all the diffrent mobile desgin languages andwhy they shouldntuse the stock twitter aps I get dull looks.

To be honest, I don't see the tablet design as "Ugly". To me it looks like some laptop-cross-tablet hybrid, which is probably what Microsoft is going for.
Getting onto the mandatory criticizing, from what I've heard of Windows 8 it sounds like it's going to be another Vista; the preview builds are wonky, the Start menu is gone, and almost nobody cares for the metro design. I also know someone who's planning on mass-buying Windows 7 when Windows 8 releases because the later OS just isn't up to standards.

Just a few comments:
*This looks similar to the Asus Transformer Prime (of which I was STRONGLY considering purchasing) with the optional keyboard/docking station.
*The iPad never appealed to me for reasons other than I'm just anti-Apple. No HDMI outs and no expandable memory amongst other reasons. (At least with ver 2. not sure about ver 3) My wife loves hers though.
*I absolutely adore the Metro UI, on my Xbox, on my Windows Phone, and I'll like it on any WP8 device I own in the future.
*I won't be purchasing this tablet. I'd rather wait for 3rd party hardware manufacturers and see what they'll unveil with Windows 8.
So just I completely understand these two proposed solutions:
If I'm in a hotel with my tablet and I have about ::insert crazy arbitrary number:: movies saved on the tablet, how would Apple TV allow me to watch these movies on the flat screen in my room? Also how would I watch them while in the car on the way to that aforementioned hotel if I had to store them in the "cloud"?
