@Haru17 Yeah it is. It's so weird that a game is the most exciting thing in a good while, but can easily end up as an underwhelming experience. Although, I trust Aonuma way more to deliver a good Zelda game, than I trusted Sean Murray to deliver the biggest space exploration sim in the history of video games.
I can't comprehend you types who get bored while playing video games (that don't have grinding / open world missions / MMO quests). I mean, hell, try playing Fallout 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. A good several hours of all of those games is spent reading lore books, haha.
@Octane I mean, I expected No Man's Sky to be bad. Not as bad as it was, which is why I'm out $60 on it, but... yeah. It's just a funny, unfair comparison to make.
@Haru17 The positive thing is that Breath of the Wild will be a handcrafted game and not a procedurally generated Spore 2.0 planet. And even though I think it's going to be miles better than NMS (despite the fact that it's an unfair comparison); It's at least something to think about. In the end, there's only so much to do in a huge world. It's going to become repetitive at some point.
@Octane Oh, it's already repetitive in the demo. You're performing way less unique actions than in Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, or even The Wind Waker.
@Haru17 Still, it's a demo after all. And an early build by the looks of it. There's some stuff I liked; all the items, the cooking and the versatility of the items. Not sure what to think of the OP magic spells and the lack of ''real'' items (not finding important quest items in chests anymore is a huge bummer). I just hope that it's going to be a good Zelda game and not some ''look, we're cool too, we have an open world game'' type of deal. The physics engine is neat, but I don't really care for it. Not sure if they expect people to do crazy stuff and upload them to YouTube like they do with GTA and whatnot, because that's not what I'm looking for in a Zelda game.
@Octane I think the crazy hijinks are what I'm most excited for. Who knows if this'll have any of the qualities that make Zelda good, but I sure am diggin' horse riding, gliding, and chopping down trees.
@Haru17 "I can't comprehend you types who get bored while playing video games"
It must be a wonderful thing to be so universally accepting that nothing bores you.
"I mean, hell, try playing Fallout 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. A good several hours of all of those games is spent reading lore books, haha."
Good open world games aren't boring. They're exhilarating and feed the player's sense of adventure. Several Zelda games do that for me, too. So far, Twilight Princess has not been one of them.
I'll give it more of a chance, though. It's a long game, and I'm not very far in.
It's definitely the most Western AAA Zelda I've seen. Everything seems to be a dirty shade of brown or green, and the childlike sense of wonder seems to be missing.
It does seem to be the one Zelda game I've played where the companion character isn't annoying, though. Midna is awesome thus far.
