A remote community play for Nintendo Switch Currently we are playing BOTW.. without motion controls... but still beating the puzzles that need them We become a think tank where each person also has the ability to give their flavor of control.

So far the bomb jumps have been magnificent.

What is this exactly?

It is a web-based controller for my Nintendo Switches (and other consoles soon). You can connect a controller and play right in the web browser. No controller? Well there are keyboard bindings as well as a Keyboard mapper if you are unsatisfied with my key bindings.

I originally only had one Nintendo Switch running but my brother thought it was pretty cool so he got me two more to run alongside it.

How do multiple people play?

In short : you don't. The controller is binded to the first person who interacts with it (like makes Link walk). If they are not providing anymore input for 10 seconds it will be released for another person to give input. There is a built-in chat so if you want to just backseat play; you can do that too.

Why make this?

Mostly it was just a passing thought on whether or not it was possible. How would I even have such a thought? well... with the current situation of the world it has become a crime just to visit your family and friends. I designed this software so that my friends and family can play with me even when they are stuck in their homes. Now I want to share this with the world.

Side note :

All products used are legit. Nintendo Switches are real, Games are real cartridges or digital downloads.

How does it work?

In gist I used

  • an old laptop for capturing and restreaming as well as controller input
  • 3 capture cards
  • 3 Nintendo Switches
  • 1 Bluetooth Adapter for Controller emulation
  • 1 Server in the cloud to multicast video streams and aggregate all consoles into one web port

Here is the source code :

I run one instance of this app for each console. Then I use another app (not Kocho) to make them into the website you see at m03.ca
