Video games are the gateways to a different world and those same ideas can be translated into something much more significant in ours.
There has to be at least one game that rubbed us the right way one time or changed a perspective of thinking for a lifetime, I suppose.
For me, I became more susceptible to music because of Rhythm Heaven on the Nintendo DS, not just because the music was catchy or because of the clever gameplay mechanics, but because it alluded much more to what rhythm should be doing for today's generation and beyond. Many good artists are out there who don't get a chance to shine over others who auto-tune and cheat their way into the spotlight.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time opened my eyes in a way that I can never forget...

Thank you Shigeru Miyamoto, that was a most freeing experience, lol

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Super Mario Advance- The first game I truly loved; made me love video games in general. Kirby Air Ride- The first console game I ever owned, and it helped me relate better to my friends. Super Smash Bros. Brawl- It was the only thing that mattered in my life, and when it came out, it felt like Jesus himself blessed the game. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga- Made me realize that games can be genuinely funny, and that RPGs are great games.
Without Mighty Flip Champs! having exsisted, I never would have wanted to google a review for it, and I never would have found this site.
Zelda: Ocarina of Time got me and my friend making up new characters for a (personal)zelda comic he had, which led to the creation of 'Zez' the prince of Hyrule. without that I would probably be 'froglink' or something dumb like that
Super Mario World was my [Edit: First] video game, and what got me into Nintendo.
I once stayed up all night playing Final Fantasy and as a result I completely bombed my SATs that morning, preventing me from getting into a good college, getting an Ivy League education, or ever escaping the nightmare of living inside of a 10% tax bracket. Does that count as a game that changed your life somewhat?

That's hilarious! The game that changed me internally was Mega Man 2. I always wanted to be Mega Man and would frequently dress up as him for no reason. The game that controlled me the most was Goldeneye. There was something about beating the Facility on 00 Agent in 2:05 that kept me up way too late on school nights. The game I can relate to the most is Manhunt. It profiles the goings-on in my daily life.
Mm, can't say any have changed my life, but I do use games a lot as a starting point for my own projects. Which never get finished because I'm too easily sidetracked by the games. ...So I guess not then, heh.

I don't know what it was, but the first videogame I ever bought might have changed my life, because if I hadn't got into videogames, I would be a very different person (more popular, better eyesight, more social, etc.)
It's worth it though.

Beyond Good and Evil made me cry and is the single determining factor in my deciding what I wanted to do for a living. I also now hear the music ("Home Sweet Home") every time I walk anywhere, which now lends a pretty incredible sense of beauty to even the most mundane of everyday sights.

Seriously, though, I can cook redundancy... oh wrong thread.
Anyways, Super Mario World was the game that changed my life... without it I may have not started playing video games, and that leads to a whole slew of life changes, not the least of which is coming to this site and meeting some awesome people.
So... thank you Shigeru Miyamoto. You made me a nerdy loser, but... thank you.
And then Golden Sun made me into even more of a loser...

Worth it.
