You Americans really have an inflated sense of self-importance if you can't let some other countries host the FIFA World Cup for a while. You hosted it not long ago. Important note: it is the FIFA World Cup. It just so happens Qatar is part of the world and they have a participating team no less. They have every right to host the games.
And yes, it's a wonderful thing that a lesser-known country like Qatar is going to get the benefits of increased tourism and investment thanks to the World Cup. Good on you, FIFA Executive Committee.
Ah, football. A sport which makes everyone mad except the winners. (And sometimes the winners get mad too.) This thread is true to form!
Personally I'd love to see Australia host the games some day.
@HM....whoah, whoah, whoah....one thing I DON'T have is an inflated sense of self-importance. I've only gotten into football recently so I thought it would have been cool to have it here. Do I really care that we got snubbed? Probably not. I don't know that I would have attended as I have issues with large crowds. But it would have helped give football (soccer) more attention here. Interest is growing in the US and this could have helped push it further.
But I still say...Qatar? WTF? They have no existing infrastructure so they would have to waste billions (granted they have that). But is that money well spent?

The US had it in 94. That was only 5 tournaments ago. By 2022 that will only have been 8 tournaments ago. There are many more than 8 countries competing to host the event, but you won't even give them a chance if you insist on the US hosting it at least every 8 tournaments. (Which is pretty much what you imply when you say the US was snubbed and deserved to be the host in 2022.)
The US did not get "snubbed".
Whether or not it would drum up interest in football within the US locally is, well, irrelevant to the selection process and to football worldwide. Who cares? Like I said: inflated self-importance much? Just kidding lol, but perhaps now you see my point.

Qatar's money is very well-spent on promoting sports, improving its infrastructure, public services, hospitality and tourism sectors. I can't think of a faster way for them to improve their economy and generate a sense of pride in itself as a nation than hosting a highly-anticipated international sporting event. How is that a waste? I say good for them and I hope they maximise the event to give themselves a better international footing.
@HM...does Qatar really need to improve their ecomony..."The country's economic growth has been stunning. Qatar's nominal GDP, estimated to be $128 billion for 2010, has recently been growing at an average of 15%, and the 2010 growth rate is estimated to be 19%. Qatar's 2007 per capita GDP was $67,000, and projected to soon be the highest in the world. The Qatari Government's strategy is to utilize its wealth to generate more wealth by diversifying the economic base of the country beyond hydrocarbons." They also have one of the highest per capita incomes in the world.
I also didn't get the impression that they were going to improve their infrastructure, I thought it was more of a building of stadiums etcetera.

Excellent, they're rich and getting richer. The US however is in massive debt and is recovering from a recession. All the more reason that Qatar is well-equipped to host the FIFA World Cup.
P.S. So you're saying Qatar is undeserving of being the host of the 2022 cup because... the country isn't spending its money the way you think it should? Do you write the rules of the FIFA Executive Committee's selection process or something? Inflated self-importance much? lol, I'm kidding.
It's just that your reasoning, morally upright or otherwise, has no bearing on whether or not Qatar should host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And besides, it's a done deal. Best of luck to the US next time but I don't think it'll happen for at least a few more tournaments since they hosted it so recently..

I was under the impression that the existing infrastructure and/or the ability to get appropriate infrastructure in place IS what the Executive Committee are supposed to take into account when making their decision.
Regardless, I couldn't care any less. I'm sick of hearing about all of the shady deals, bickering, and corruption.
Besides, there's really only room for one "football" in the U.S. kekekeke
the ability to get appropriate infrastructure in place IS what the Executive Committee are supposed to take into account when making their decision
Qatar has shown it's a wealthy country so it has that ability, obviously. If there were shady deals, etc. well, it's just a sport. No one's getting hurt. Well, until the football hooligans make an appearance.
I'll say it again QATAR WTF!!! The average tempeature over there when the world cup is held is around 42°C. Just right to give you dehydration while playing football. NICE!! You can't drink Alcohol? WHAT??? Women must cover up there bodies. Are they craaaaazy? They ain't exactly big fans of the West either,of which the majority of travelling fans will be.Who knows what the politcal situation will be by then. Oh and they have never come even close to qualifying for a World cup before! Sounds like a S**t World Cup to me. I'm gonna go to Russia and get sloshed on Vodka
England had by far the best bid ,Economically ,Commercially and the infastructure is already here. These are the main things that the FIFA board are supposed to consider when casting their vote. But when you have Sepp Blatter telling the Judges to consider what the Enlish media might unearth about their filthy secrets before the vote then what chance did we have. Bent to F**k, the lot of em' QATAR WTF!!!
Luigi78 does bring up a good point. Who knows WHAT the world will be like in 2018 and 2022. Heck, Qatar could be the 94th state of the United States by then...
All jokes aside, a LOT has happened since 1998 (12 years ago). Imagining what might happen in 2022 (12 years from now) is a little scary!
Like Luigi said, Qatar is a terrible choice. They would have to support an amount of fans twice that of their total population for the World Cup. I don't think you can prepare for that in 12 years. Also these fans are going to drink, a lot. So is Qatar simply going to piss off their entire country and allow for all of their laws to be cast aside for the sake of money? Sounds like a holy war in the making to me...
And these western women are going to come in looking sexy, especially in 130 degree heat. How much clothing would you wear if it were that hot? Exactly. This will be a disaster.
What they will do in Qatar is like what China did for the Olympics a few years ago. They will probably have the World Cup venues walled up and blocked off from the rest of Qatar with soldiers keeping the alcohol and half naked women inside the venues.

@Tasuki ooooh..........Sounds fun. @AVIATOR Yep i'm well aware that Qatar was a different bid to Englands. I'm p****d about the whole process more than anything.
And once again an intresting discussion gets locked. Thanks a lot TBD.What exactly was wrong with this thread? Just cause the decsions been made that means we can't talk about it?? WTF? Now I remember why I stopped contributing to these forums.
Not only that but they have picked countries that are soooo far away from us so my chances of every going to one is very slim. I mean the closest one to us anytime soon will be Brazil, and thats still to far.

Again, Australia should host it.

Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Admit it guys. Im english and annoyed about the decision but im talking about 2022 world cup now the one the americans bidded for. I can totally see why the americans are upset and heres three reasons why the world cup in quator is floored. 1) They are the size of a postage note and have no where near the economy too cope with it, the final will probabally be staged in a stadium where the capacity is 30,00 2) The heat is far to much they will be playing in 50c 3) Its a muslim country so everyone will have to be covered up completely. Now your not telling me in 50c at a footy match with long sleeved shirt, smart trousers and tie isnt going to get stuffy
I think that's enough, guys. The decision has been made, the end :3
