Rhythmic structure is what defines poetry. Would you listen to a rap that doesn't have any rhyming?
Would you listen to a song if it did have rhyming? [youtube:xl0N7JM3wZk]
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I'm sorry. I just can't see how an article about the history of Romania is considered poetry. There is no structure, just a bunch of sentences broken up randomly.
That is not what poetry is about.
Let me give you an example: A Dream Within a Dream (Edgar Allen Poe)
Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow- You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand- How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep- while I weep! O God! can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?

Poetry doesn't have to rhyme.
Look at T.S. Eliots Preludes, stanza IV: "His soul stretched tight across the skies That fade behind a city block, Or trampled by insistent feet At four and five and six o'clock; And short square fingers stuffing pipes, And evening newspapers, and eyes Assured of certain certainties, The conscience of a blackened street Impatient to assume the world.
I am moved by fancies that are curled Around these images, and cling: The notion of some infinitely gentle Infinitely suffering thing.
Wipe your hand across your mouth, and laugh; The worlds revolve like ancient women Gathering fuel in vacant lots."
The rhyming structure is: a, b, c, b, e, a, f, c, g, h, i, h, j, k, l.
Each line of the poem doesn't have to rhyme, Heck, the poem doesn't even have to be in time!

Wow, this makes it seem like you know nothing about poetry.

Now I know you don't know poetry. D:
I know about classic poetry. Read some Edgar Allen Poe and come back to me.
Oh I'm sorry I thought this thread was calling all poets not calling all people who are well versed in ancient archaic poetry and can copy their styles.
So sad man. You have no heart, especially for the arts.
Maybe I am not artistic in the ways of words but most of Waltz stuff just sounds like articles split into sections (no offense) just how I see it. But in the end Poetry is still an expression, so I don't think there are any specific rules behind it, involving structure and rhythm. As I said I am not poetic.
Though really everyone here should just stay on track. There's nothing more that I hate, when there's a good thread going on, and one person comes in and posts their "lul I'm funny" response and then this train wrecks the whole thread into a pit of randomness and chaos.

Every knows about classic poetry. For years and years many praised it. But to be able to write your own. Without making some people groan. That's a skill which you may need to learn.
