Topic: Anyone Here Like Giant Robots?

We're talking about robots of the very tall variety. Everything ranging from Realistic mechs like in Gundam or Macross, to the Super Heroes in Giant robot armor like Mazinger Z or Getter Robo, to even the sentiant like the robots from Transformers or GaoGaiGar.

If you like Giant Robots, which do you prefer, realistic or Super Robot? And which Robot is your favorite?

And if you don't like Giant Robots...why?!

I used to not really care for them much, but after playing through Xenoblade and the Wonderful 101, I'm quickly growing fond of piloted mechs. Especially in W101, giant robot Punchout!! is the best thing ever.

As for giant robots, well I never got into Gundam but I did enjoy the anime series Full Metal Panic.

G Gundam has to be my favorite giant robot anime though, especially the Shining Gundam & Gundam Maxter. I'm also a fan of Big O (especially the first season), and the Big O itself.

I've really got to re-watch Gundam Wing & Gundam 00 though, to refresh my memories of them.

Pacific Rim was probably my favorite non superhero movie this year.

To answer my own question: Yes, I do like Giant Robots. I prefer the realistic kind, like from Gundam. Choosing my favorite is hard. Too hard. I'll list off my top 10 in no order:

• RX-78NT-1 Gundam "Alex" - I love how it's one of the few realistic Gundams with hidden weapons in their arms. More mechs need that kind of thing.
• MS-18 Kämpfer - I love how sinister it looks, and its weapons make it like a robot Rambo.
• MMS-01 Serpent - I always loved the look of the OZ suits, and this one's my favorite, if only because it's nice to see shoulder-mounted Missiles being a thing.
• MSN-04 Sazabi - I always like Char's suits, but and he saved the best for last. Good to see him make use of the Funnels, too.
• VF-1S "Super" Valkyrie - What can I say, it's hilariously awesome when a mech has too many weapons. XD This one makes it work especially well, IMO.
• MBR-04-Mk.VI Destroid Tomahawk - Interesting to see a more rugged, less-humanized robot. This looks like the kind of Mech people would actually build, IMO.
• T10C Blockhead - I like how has no face, just a Gun.
• ATM-09-ST Scopedog - I love how Versatile it is. There are a ton of variations and weapons it can use. One such variation being the Red Shoulder Custom
• AV-98 Ingram - Okay, I'll admit, I just love the look of this thing.
• Shin Getter Robo - "This is what killed the Dinosaurs...again" basically sums this thing up. I felt I had to list at least one Super Robot, so it might as well be the quintessential one. This guy can shoot energy rays that cause their opponents to evolve at such a rate that it just explodes, cut giant monsters in half with its razor sharp forearms, produce a Halberd that can turn into a reaper scythe, turn into a guy with a Massive Drill, turn yet again into a tank, and under the right conditions, it can produce a giant energy axe capable of destroying planets. This thing is boss.

Honorable Mentions go out to every mech featured in Gundam Unicorn. Every single one.

I love Transformers. They are my favorite giant robots. If by super you mean superhero then I definitely prefer realistic giant robots. (Transformer is realistict giant robot right? It's a bit hard to tell since the subject is giant robots). One I will probably look into watching some gundam, and the giant robots in Code Geass are cool so far. I will probably get an Armored Core once on of them hit PS4 and get a price drop too. And I somehow knew you made this topic too.

@Jaz007 - They're kinda in between, you know? Code Geass is kinda realistic, though. At least before things get out of hand...

Also, get Armored Core V on PS3! It's already down to $20 and it's great!

As far as the more out their mech anime's go my favorites are Gurren Lagan and Eva.

As far as more realsti series go I favor Robotech and Full Metal Panic.

Oh yeah, Eureka 7 is really good too, especially the Nirvash & it's nemesis, THE END.

Oddly enough, I never really liked Eureka Seven's mecha designs. They're too angley and weird-looking, especially the Nirvash.

There was something my friend showed me last year; it had giant robots that ended up bigger than galaxies... but the name of it escapes me... anyone know what I'm talking about?

I am definitely a fan though not as big of a fan as I'd hope. Grew up watching Beast wars and from there was introduced to Gundam Wing which got me hooked on the model kits early on. Already have the MG kits of RX 78-2 2.0 ver ka and the Guntank, will probably get Guncannon and Zaku II just to complete(?) the cast of the MS Gundam series.

Does anyone here build the model kits?

Me. I had a bunch, but eventually threw them out. I got 5 new ones last year, though. Model kits have gotten more expensive than I remembered...but they're still as fun to build as ever. I got the Gundam Alex, the Kampfer, the Victory Gundam, The Deathscythe Hell, and the Aile Strike Gundam. I've been meaning to pick up more, especially the Gundam X Divider, but I don't have the space to put them anywhere...I need to get rid of stuff...
