I still haven't gotten around to downloading this, but with each song I see submitted here it gets harder and harder to not give in and get it. Keep up the good work everyone .

How do I record songs to my computer? Is there a way to save it to my SD card, or do I have to buy a cable or something? I definitely don't want to buy anything else.

Yea I cant get any of my stuff on the computer either.
Also listening to all of your music makes me sad that mine sucks If Swerd doesn't win first place in this contest it's totally rigged

@Taya - Use a male-to-male audio able, plugged from the DSi's headphone jack to your computer's microphone jack.

Male-to-male audio cables have the side that goes into headphones (or rather, that appearance) on both sides--chances are, if you own a pair of computer speakers, you have one (or multiple) of these lying around....if not, I can't see them being more than a dollar or two.

In terms of what to use to record once you have the requisite cable, I think it's pretty much universally agreed upon that Audacity (an open-source sound editor) is the best way to go, as it's free...and still better than pretty much everything else, paid or not.

Assuming you have the cable (or once you get one) I'd be happy to narrate the process in more detail.

To give you an idea of how long it takes--I open my laptop, double-click Audacity (it's open in 2 seconds), hit the record button in Audacity (I've already set it to playback whatever I'm recording--the Playthrough Recording option in Preferences), and then hit the play button on Rytmik.....and stop both devices once the record is done. 30 seconds of Exporting-to-WAV-file later, I'm done. The whole process takes about twice as long as actually playing your song through one time...can't be much easier than that

@Taya Great composition, I can only ever remember the main melody, not the backing notes. You should try to fit the top screen in the video too, because that shows a nice equalizer effect.

@Swerd_Murd I'm already familiar with Audacity and recording, but I'd like to ask about posting to Youtube. How do you do that? I don't have any video software (apart from Windows Movie Maker... * shudder *), though I do have a Youtube account. So how do you get your audio into a video, and specify what images/animations appear while the music is playing? Thanks.

EDIT: Did a quick internet search, do you use MP32Tube?

Here's a video of my sole entry in the Rytmik EU/AUS competion, entitled "Let's get ready to Wrestle".

I haven't really played it since, what with "Jam with the Band", but it's a lot easier to make music with Rytmik that JWTB.

Winning is about getting alot of likes from other users. If you like the entry, give a like to the video.

@HolyMakerel
Windows Movie Maker is fine for just showing music and a few still images. It is good enough unless you want to do a more complex video. Just put the sound or image files in the timeline and when they are used in the timeline. WMM is esay enough to learn.

@Holy - yup, I use windows movie maker for my simple music upload stuff. I tend to just break out a 480x320 (for guaranteed iphone-youtube compatibility) mspaint thing with a little blurb on the song (or a picture of shaq ) but yeah--windows movie maker seriously makes that process take about 2 minutes. I just open my folder i keep all that crap in, drag it directly to the project space in the movie maker window, and add song, then add pic/stretch to the total length of song and publish. Super easy.

@zez - toss a bassline in there and you've pretty much got it. I think some of the chording changes a bit throughout the song too (been a while since I've heard the original) but that piano sample is really faithful to that in the original. Good stuff bud!

Thanks, and after listening to the song a couple hundred times on my Wii's VC, I never heard any bass, so I didn't add any. :3
Also, The chording does change at about 00:41.

@zez - there isn't a bassline (i don't think) in the original, but the chords are a bit richer/different, and I think in your remade version, a bassline would add some cohesion to the piece....it's always fun to improve on the original

I'd try to go back and fill in the chords--also, notice that there are 2 different sets of chords (chord 1, chord 2, chord 3, chord 4; then chord 1, chord 2, chord 5, chord 6). You might wanna grab a rom and de-toggle the channels on said song to get the notes spot-on--I did this for all of my GBA megaman retracks...as those songs are really, REALLY dense with the 16th-notes.

Btw--please (this goes to everyone) don't ever interpret my "criticisms" as attacks on your character or anything--comments like these are only aimed at improving on the work you guys have done. If you have the cajones to post creative work you've done to the public, you're a step ahead of most of the rest of the world, and I (and said rest of the world) respect(s) you.

Thanks for the tips, but is there an easier way to listen to the specific (instruments?) than to get the rom? Also, do I have to re-upload the edited song to youtube and delete the old video, or is there some way to edit the old youtube video with the new song?

Edit: Also, it's hard to find lead sounds that I want, so with this one I stuck with a piano sound, and with the chords I couldn't found a sound I liked either, and I'm still not happy with the current.

@zez Great work! Oh that tune is familiar, but I never played Secret of Mana. O.o Was it also in Sword of Mana (the GBA game)? There's a few chime/glockenspiel samples in Rytmik that you could use instead of the backing synth if you wanna get it closer to the original song. Also there's a bassline you could use one of the bass/lead synths to copy too.

@Swerd_Murderrific Thanks! I spent ages on it, trying to get the sounds to match to the original as close I could. @_@ I've found the sample selection is awesome though, you can do loads with what's there.

And I'm kinda of burned out after that song haha. I'll have to think about what to make next.

Anyway let's hear more of your songs guys! I love hearing what people can make with this app.
