So for those that have one/both: How are they?
I just got Metronome so I'll try to post my thoughts sometime soon.

i want the tuner, but i wonder if it will be useful for my flute, or if its just for guitar or something...
the metronome sounds tempting too.

I want to get the metronome, but I'm going to wait to see what others say about it.
Does it have a lot of time sigs(i.e. 3/4, 2/2)?

i just downloaded the tuner and played with my flute, its a fun toy

Starting the game you are shown a tutorial on how everything works.

There is a scale in the top screen that tells you the note, how perfect the tone is (it is sharp, flat, or just right) and the current time, in the touch screen is a small keyboard to hear examples, also in the touch screen is a small menu where you can choose to go back to the DSi Menu, play the game, change the settings and read the help file.

In the settings you can change the pitch in Hz of the tones, from 435 to 445, you can choose one of three designs, each one with different keyboard sounds, the last one is game & watch themed, too, and you can change the notation from Alphabetic to Syllabic.

In the game, Tuner Fighter, you need to match the note in the ballons before they go outside of the screen, there are 20 ballons and based on how well you match the tune you get a score, its actually quite fun but very short.

People wanting some frenetic touch screen gameplay or a game that will last you hours and hours should look elsewhere, but this is something people with musical instruments (or you can also sing or whistle!) will surely appreciate.

i like it... My Highscore at tuner fighter is 15100.
i give it an 8 of 10 in my app-o-meter.

No, but you can change the beat to suit your needs, unless you needs are 6/8, in which case you're better off putting it on the triplet beat or 2 beats a measure, or 8 or more beats a measure.

On an unrelated note, while I haven't tried the tuner yet on my euphonium, I enjoy the Hold Indefinitely button and how you can actually hear the pitch above a p for the tone. If I get a sectional in band this week I'll try to compare it to my other tuner/metronome, a Sabine MT9000, and perhaps a Korg tuner if I can borrow it from a senior that sits next to me.

Exactly.

A comparison with another tuner, even just an online tuner, would be nice to see how accurate it is. I wonder how precise the microphone can be and how close or far you have to be for it to work.

Well, I've been fooling around with the tuner's mini-game for a little bit, and this is basically it. Starting at 90 BPM, (beats per minute) DK will roll barrels down his ramp towards Mario in a rhythmic pattern. You then clap or make some kind of noise to make Mario jump over the barrels. If you clear all of those barrels, Mario moves up a ladder, getting closer to Pauline. The tempo than picks up to 100 BPM and you have less reaction time to the faster moving barrels. Clear those barrels, move up a ladder, play at 110 BPM (I think), then 120 BPM, followed by 140 BPM, 160 BPM, then until you're on the same platform as DK at 180 BPM, (three beats per second!) and then ... I don't know. That's where I lost. You get scored on how close to the beat you are, earning 1,000 points for being on the beat, 500 for being close, and 200 if you're that terrible. After you lose, the game shows you where you clapped each time, showing you if you're average, a rhythm master or rhythmically challenged. Definitely a nice addition to a metronome. I give the entire app a 9/10 for being a good metronome with a nice side game.

Are you talking of the Tuner, or Metronome?

Good to see this kind of thing getting a good reception on DSiWare. I hope we get more of these types of utilities than clocks/calculators--much more compelling imo.

EDIT - @zez - given the description, I'd assume that's the metronome. BPM-based minigame wouldn't make sense for the tuner. Especially when the last line (which you quoted) mentions it being a nice metronome :/

I figured that, but at the beginning, he said:

9 out of 10! not bad for what it is... i love the retro goodness they have thrown in, almost makes it worth the 200 pts to download. i am not musically inclined at all and i thought these were kind of neat. at least something different to play once in a while. might be better suited for younger kids interested in music and maybe music professionals who like vintage games, but i'm not sure your average joe would download this. good one, though.

Thanks for the input on the tuner guys, now I'm really interested in it. In fact I think I have a points balance still....

Would the tuner be suitable for tuning a seven string guitar to ADGCFad?

Had a sectional in band yesterday but didn't have the time to post to this about the tuner. It tunes the same as my other tuner (a Sabine Metrotune MT9000); I didn't get a chance to compare it to a Korg, and I don't think anyone in my band is willing to let me borrow their tuner over spring break, which starts tomorrow. I also played through the tuner mini-game, and while it appears to be as accurate as the metronome mini-game in terms of recognizing pitch it just isn't as fun. Also, I beat the 180 BPM level in the metronome mini-game, and after you beat that level, the game ends. My high score is 39800.

Gavin - It should suffice for that, as I believe it recognizes multiple octaves, but you can't change the octave on the keyboard. Just don't expect ridiculously perfect results, still use your ear and make adjustments as nessesary.

Exactly.
