Topic: Is the DSi worth getting?

I haven't bein interested in the DSi for the following reasons:
1. No GBA
2. Unnecessary accessories (camera, etc)
3. Not interested in the apps
4. I can always get G&W Gallery 4, and save a lot of money

So why do you ask if it's worth getting?
I guess it depends... if you want all those features I suppose it's not really worth it.
For those who haven't owned a DS before or plan to replace their DS phat it's worth buying. Why buy an older version of a handheld if the new one is already out?
In my opinion the DSi is great. I use the camera, I download DSiWare, I love the slightly bigger screens, it looks better, is lighter... compared to the DSL it doesn't look cheap.

It's worth getting. Seriously.

I'm still not convinced about DSI, the DSIware seems very limited and mostly puzzle games, I have more than enough puzzle games on wiiware so I'm not really in the mood for much more to be honest, also no exclusive DSI games yet and until those 2 things change I'm sticking with my DS lite.

Starfox:
I too am not convinced by the DSi, but since it's about the only thing that my parents will get me for Christmas, I'm asking for one. Here are my reasons for not fully being convinced:
1.Camera and Music Playback I don't need because I have a Coolpix Camera and an I-Pod Touch.
2.DSi Ware: Not Impressed by what it has.
3.No GBA, I love my GBA Games being able to be played on my DS Lite without having to drag out my old SP!
Well here are reasons I want it, and I have tried out these features on my friends DSi, so don't comment on, you don't know what your talking about bullcrap!:
1.Flipnote Studio (LOVE IT )
2.Direct Camera Upload to Facebook, For Convience Sake!
3.Possible Virtual Handheld!
4.Mini's March Again!
5.DSi Exclusives in the future!

GBA slot is not worth it. if you want to play gba games just get a used gba at game stop. also ds games are better then gba

This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

I'm sure many would beg to differ there, but anyway...The GBA slot was never just a GBA slot, it was "SLOT 2." What's the difference, you ask? No Slide Adventure MagKid, Guitar Hero, Band Hero, Arkanoid DS, and more on your DSi. No motion pak, no rumble, no DS memory expansion, no Play-Yan (a sad loss as videos aren't supported on the DSi), the list goes on...not to mention you can no longer import old GBA Pokemon into your DS Adventure (this also hurts the Harvest Moon series, WarioWare, several more). Not only does the lack of a SLOT 2 hurt GBA fans, it hurts DS fans.

In that case, you're perfectly fine with a DSi. If you want to be truly convinced, you could wait for the first batch of DSi exclusive games to see if it's worth upgrading.

I like the on-the-fly game change. That'd be so much better than "the system will now shut off".

This is something I've been trying to decide too. One of the kids friends brought over his dsi and when compared there's not really enough to convince me.
I don't need the camera I have a real good digital with enough PC programs to edit and play with the pictures as much as I want.
The other negative I found was the music set up.
I didn't get a good chance to play around with it enough but found it didn't support mp3 format nor could I quickly figure out how (If it's possible) to put my own music onto it (Is it possible?) If possible then I'd have to convert all my music on my PC from .mp3 to the supported .aac audio. Is that correct? Can someone please clarify that for me?
There is also the issue mentioned earlier of the new ds making obsolete games like Guitar Hero and the use of the rumble pak.
The screens (was it 15%?) increase in size wasn't jawdroppingly impressive and the speakers would still leave me using headphones.
I don't know how all the new bits will be used in gameplay but until something good enough to make me really want one is produced I'll be more than happy with my current DS to get me through the wifes nightly episodes of the regular soaps...

keep in mind- the camera is more for fun than it is functiolity--the included photo screw-with-er is a blast and the real appeal of the less-than-stellar camera. DSiWare is AMAZING though, and honestly who plays the DS GH on purpose anyway? The increase in screen size is actually quite nice, the GUI is way cleaner, and the sound player/screw-with-er is awesome too, as is Flipnote Studio. Again--we all have nice photo mess-around programs on our PCs somewhere, but it's the instant accessibility and powerful simplicity that makes this (and most all Nintendo products) such a winner. I'm a big fan of it personally, and now own all 3 models of DS proudly (despite reservations at my DS Lite's random power-off issues with certain games despite it being treated like gold since purchase)

lol Odnetnin quoted himself. You don't see that much--and it was used effectively no less! Golf claps abound.

@Chung - they play mp4 files too, which are pretty similar to the advanced audio codec files, but yeah, no mp3 support.

Well the thing about the DSi camera is editing photos on the move rather than having to put it on a computer first, also it's extremely uncomplicated to mess around with your photos. I've spent several extremely long bus trips with my friends taking pictures of each other and making the pictures as hilarious as possible.
Converting sound files is easy if you have iTunes and 5 minutes of spare time.
As for the loss of Slot 2 it depends on how ready you are to say goodbye to your GBA games and Guitar Hero.

It's the music option that will eventually win me over. I use Switch sound converter on my PC it's easy and handy to use transfering off CD into mp3 format. It's not long to do a few songs but I'd be inclined to want to fill an few GB SD card just with music, I've held off buying an mp4 to see what the dsi offers in this way.
In saying that it plays mp4 does that mean it will also play video in mp4 format? Now that would be a good selling point.

Unfortunately it doesn't play mp4 video.

yeah I shoulda said .m4a I think....sorry if I misled! No videos of any kind (that I've tried) can play through the DSi...not sure where one would even go to access them or what program they would use to do so.

Yes, I think so! It has more functionality! I also like it because the edges are more rounded! I had issues with the edges of the DS Lite digging into my palms while playing for an extended period! Finally, I never really favored the glossy surface!
