All I know is that it's a glitchy Chrono Trigger knock-off...

Actually, no.

I have played it, completed it twice actually, and it's great for Final Fantasy 1-6 fans. It's an RPG but with playing fields, so positioning of the characters has more of an impact. Some maps you can only attack one enemy at a time unless you use magics or ranged attacks. This is one of those lost treasures, actually, the company went under just as they were finishing it, and the final production was a bit rushed because of it. Which sucks, the game itself was nicely planned, and the story is interesting. The game system is not fancy, very simple sprite graphics and audio. The controls are extremely simple, though it relies on the L/R buttons for some things. It's pure turn-based. There is a lot of reading involved, no voices, no videos, just simple text. If you have patience for the reading, it's got a pretty interesting storyline, though it's very linear.

I just went and read a bunch of reviews for this game. Nearly every one of them complained about glitches, among many other things.

The only glitches I noticed were minor graphical ones, and I do mean minor. Of course people who don't like RPGs would not give it a good review, but as I stated, those of us who loved FF 1-6 will enjoy Black Sigil. But here's the thing, anyone who compares it to Chrono Tigger has either not played Black Sigil, or has not played Chrono Trigger, the two are very different in many ways. I have played it through a couple times now, it's enjoyable but it is a cult classic, not a pop game.

It was originally meant to be a GBA game (I mean, announced during the GBA's prime) and the developer was fairly indie (so that's why the graphics were so reminiscent of Chrono Trigger), so it was kind of a surprise it made it out at all.

I know there were a couple small-developer GBC western-made JRPGs. One called Mythic (I think? It's been so long I can't remember, looked pretty cool), which supposedly the developers still have the ROM. Don't know if there's anyone around still trying to sell that in some form, but while it could be interesting I suppose it would also disappoint if it does come out.

Another canceled GBC western JRPG, looks more generic, though.
