Yep, this is one of my favorite NES games. It improved on the original tremendously, especially in the lack of those annoying birds from 1.

Kind of strange considering PAL regions got the NTSC version of the first on Wii VC, then neither PAL nor NTSC version of the second (and the third would be an Import for them that was never offered either.)
But I think it would be fair to use restore points on the third because it was artificially inflated in difficulty (the NES version made the player take double damage, and they removed a password feature and added limited continues.) (I know the SNES version added passwords to all three games but I think it also gave you unlimited continues as well. I don't know if Ryu still took double damage or not.)

I don't know man...While Sword of Chaos has some fantastic chip tunes, they still doesn't touch the WOW factor and brilliance of the originals soundtrack. Plus, II has that ridiculously annoying Clone item which can get out of hand if you have more than 1 clone on screen. Hell, I can't even remember the final 2 boss fights in II in comparison to going toe to toe with Ryu's Father and Jaquo which were both so memorable as most will agree. II's still one hell of an awesome game though and in ways is definitly superior to the first, at least in terms of being more reasonable with it's difficulty and spicing up the stages with environmental hazards. Anyways, I'd rather go through II: Sword of Chaos again instead of the original if I had to....And ESPECIALLY III.
Speaking of III. I'd LOVE to see you guys take that one on without restore points whenever it arrives on the 3DS's VC. Even if it had unlimmited continues like the previous 2 Gaiden's I'd still totaly rank it the toughest in the trilogy!
I don't even think that'll be a real challenge. I have III on Wii VC and there is a code that gives you 99 continues, and it's a lot easier that way.

So you've beaten III i take it? Have you beaten it without actually cheating?
I haven't beaten it yet (See my back log, I'm currently in the middle of it), but earlier I died and got tons of Game overs, but when entering the code it's more manageable, it lets me memorize levels better

I actually prefer Vice Project Doom to Ninja Gaiden III. The better balanced difficulty is a lot less frustrating.
But I probably would consider getting it for the 3DS if only for restore points. It might give me a chance to actually learn the stages.
