Topic: Is 3DS Virtual Console Metroid Different?

Hi! I hope this isn't the wrong place to post this, but I am having trouble with the Kraid boss fight in Metroid 1 on the Virtual Console.
I've looked up videos on how to defeat him, even looking up one that was from the Wii Virtual Console, and Kraid's attacks are slightly different. Basically he fires at a higher arch in my game, meaning I can't sit by the door. Ever. At all. I can't do ANY of the strategies to defeat him.
I even tried the "turn into a ball and bomb the crap out of him," and I die before he does each time.
I can't even jump over the spike attacks, because he flings the other spikes at the same time so if I don't get hit by the chest spikes, I get hit by the others. He just feels...impossible. I know he isn't, I just don't know what to do. :/ I really wanted to beat the original Metroid (I'm 29 and this is the first time I've played it, even though I've played games since Atari!), but Kraid is just...too difficult. I don't even know how I would try and do this fight without taking damage since he always hits me when I'm by the door.

I played Metroid on NES as a kid (and later on emulators) and I didn't notice any difference. I'm pretty sure I have just bombed Kraid to beat him. Do you have enough energy tanks?

Have you tried the 'Wave Beam' on him? You must find it in the lower depths of Norfair first. On my last playthrough (on my 3DS), I just sat by the door and used the beam on him as it penetrated the spikes (nipples?) he was throwing at me and the fight was totally non-existent. As an alternative, you can just get from up-close and mash the attack button to destroy him with missiles. Make sure you have a sufficient amount of E-Tanks and Missile Ammo first!

@JuniperMucius
Be sure to have plenty of E-tanks and missiles. (According to the internet, it takes 24 missiles to destroy him.)

Over the years I have defeated Kraid one of two ways. I have rolled into the morph ball and bombed the heck out of him (up close and personal)!!

Also, if I remember correctly, you can jump into the lava on the right hand side of the screen (just below the door) and with your missiles selected, continuously jump (so you don't keep taking damage from the lava) and as you reach the pinnacle of your jump, fire away at him. Keep doing this and you should be able to take him out pretty quickly. (again, this is purely from my memory and I can't verify this 2nd method I suggested will work).

In my opinion, Kraid is more difficult to beat than Ridley (as I have a real easy way to beat him. )

G'luck and let us know how it goes!

I'm surprised people have problems with NES Kraid. I thought getting lost or stuck somewhere would be the number 1 issue. My method was usually collect every energy tank I could recall and pick up all the available missiles before killing kraid. Usually I had 4 or 5 by the time I fought kraid and about 70 missiles. I would then just unleash all my missiles on him. Freezing the horizontal spikes prevents them from respawning until they thaw out leaving kraid's front vulnerable. do that and fire on him with all you got.
