Just picked this up with the current sale. I think ill make this my next game I play for sure.

So far in the early parts but I'm getting a weird Saw movie vibe from the beginning.

Love this game. Though I admit the the first was a bit better, but both are really good. And yeah, this whole series is basically Saw in the form of a puzzle game. Love it.

I actually found the story/presentation of the first game (999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors) to be superior, but the gameplay, etc. of VLR is FAR superior. The crazy Saw vibe is a fair reaction. You'll also quickly realize the most devious part of this death trap - it's not just that you're trapped in a psychotic prisoner's dilemma death trap - you're trapped in a psychotic prisoner's dilemma death trap with a whole band of amateur philosophers!

In all seriousness, though, it's a great visual novel/puzzle game lite series, and I'm quite excited for the eventual arrival of the third entry.

@ProfAllister: Welcome to the site btw. I followed you back on Twitter. If you send a FR on miitomo ill except it. I can't send requests because I have reached my limit and can't see all the way down to the bottom of my suggeted friends.

@Spoony_Tech: Early previews in Nintendo Power made me think of Saw, but after actually playing it, I was much more reminded of the cult 1997 Canadian thriller/sci-fi film Cube:

Also, I'd wait a while before watching it, as it kind of spoils the first couple hours of the game, but there's a promotional OVA for the game you can watch on Youtube as well:

There used to be a Japanese language web game centered on Clover that was basically just mindless fanservice, but I don't think it's online anymore. You're not really missing anything.

@Ralizah: Is it any good? Because I have a hard time believing anything good came out of Canada.

I recognize that message they're standing in front of. I just got to that area but it's only the second area thus far.

@Spoony_Tech: The film's ending is, in my opinion, complete BS, but I definitely don't regret watching it. It's interesting to watch how the characters in the film cope with the constant menace of being trapped in a strange and alien environment.

Are you playing the game with English or Japanese dialogue?

English only for me. I have the sound down most of the time anyways. Don't need swear words flying out of my system around the kids.

Still going slowly through this but I can say I like the dialog so far. Very adult and somewhat sarcastic. Almost like they're real people. I don't get that sense from a lot of games.

@Spoony_Tech: It's good you like the dialogue, because there's quite a bit of it.

Yeah, most of the characters in this game just seem like people. And, like people, they can be, in turn, funny, charming, cruel, and obnoxious. Although some are more obnoxious than others (looking at you, Dio!)

Still trying to decide if I should get this again. I have played and beaten it and sold it because there really is not much replay value, but that price is such a good deal, probably less than what I sold it for. I can't decide what to do.

I think you answered your own question on the replay value.

I loaned my copy out to someone years ago and they lost it. I'd like to replay it, but I'm tempted to get it for Vita instead so I can get the Platinum trophy that'll go along with doing another full run of this game. I hate that I didn't have PS+ when they put it in the Instant Game Collection.

Oh well. I might just splurge and repurchase it for both systems anyway. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting both versions of ZTD as well. All I'll need then is to purchase a copy of 999 with the alternate label art to truly complete my ZE collection.
