So awhile ago I dropped my 3DS a couple of times and the left corner cracked and broke off, I glued it and it worked fine and I was going to wait for the New 3DS, but recently the glue wore off so I glued it again but the L button glued down so I was using an exacto to scrape of glue out and the knife ended up sliding in the crack and I think that it dislodged the flat connector that runs from the top screen to the bottom, I don't really want to bother with another 3DS or a Nintendo repair since the New 3DS is coming next year (time to focus on my Wii U!) so that lead me to wonder for when I buy a New 3DS.

If the old 3DS does not turn on is there enough information on the SD Card for a system transfer (games & save files) or do I need the 3DS to work?

If it does not turn on then I don't think the system transfer will work. I believe that you have to go through the system settings and chose system transfer and go through all the steps. Simply taking your sd card and putting it into another 3ds will not work.

You might have to call nintendos customer service when you are ready to do a system transfer. I think that they could help you move the games that are linked to your nintendo network id but your saved files are lost.
