i have my code, but don't want everyone to see it.. I just want to see how this works first as my son is 10 and many of you are much older as I can tell by the words you use in your comments.. (sorry..no offense...just protecting my son. if you want to email me at [email protected] w/ your code I will enter it and then see how this whole online game playing works. thanks

3D Land doesn't have any online multiplayer.

@RR529 was nice enough to create a list of 3DS games with online multiplayer, you can check that out to see what games have online capabilities.

my son has the new super mario bros 2 for the 3 ds. He wants to play the mulitplayer coop play. Do we need to exchange Friend codes to do this? Help please.

You can add Friend codes in two ways: over the internet and locally. If your son hopes to play local multiplayer in some games (not all I think), he needs to add friends.

He can add friends by tapping the orange smiley on the home menu at the top. Next, tap "Register Friend" then "Local". Your son's friends will have to do the same at this time. They should appear on each other's screens, tap their Mii and they are added.

For the internet method, both 3DS owners will have to exchange their Friend codes (series of numbers like ####-####-####). We have quite a few Friend Code exchange threads here, but you probably don't want to use them if you don't feel comfortable with your son adding strangers.

I have no interest myself, however you can ask in threads like the following for online games:

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/online_gaming/3ds_friend_c... (3DS in general)
https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/online_gaming/pokemon_x_an... (Pokemon) (I only added this one because it's popular. All games use the same Friend Code)

You don't have to worry about strangers as you have to add the others' Friend codes as well.

Keep in mind that for online FC exchanges, the games have to have online multiplayer to play with those friends.
