Very excited to see Carcassonne out; I’m fairly certain that’s the first truly major modern board game to be released on a Nintendo system. If you like strategy games, don’t sleep on it! Apparently it’s getting online play in 2019, according to Asmodee’s comments on Facebook.
Yeah, I wasn't impressed with this game when I played it on PC. Pretty in screenshots, but not as great in motion. It felt repetitive and uninspired to me.
This was one of my favorite games of a couple of years ago, when I picked it up on Steam. Put 40 hours into it, far more than most platformers. I honestly liked it better than Sonic Mania, mainly because of two reasons: (1) the physics are far more forgiving, so it's much easier to control your character at slow speeds (the extra focus on combat works well with that); and (2) the bosses are incredibly well executed (hard, but always dramatic and interesting).
I would totally double dip on Freedom Planet if it came to Switch. I actually liked it more than Shovel Knight (as a retro throwback) AND Sonic Mania (as a Sonic-like). It feels like they took the level structures of Sonic, married those to a combat oriented control scheme that actually works well at slow speeds, and added in some of the best 2D platformer bosses I’ve seen. Great soundtrack too. Such a fantastic game.
I literally just tried out this game on Steam today before seeing this, and thought, hey, this should be on Switch. From what little I’ve played, it is really fun. Leans much more into being a proper technical competitive fighter than Smash does, but its tutorials do a really solid job of helping you understand how to actually execute on that. The graphics looked like generic pixel art to me at first, but after I played it some I was really impressed by the animation. Even the character designs are pretty solid.
Definitely hope this one becomes a Switch release sooner or later; I think it deserves some more exposure.
I adore Arms. It distills fighting game mechanics incredibly well (rock-paper-scissors balancing, mind games, unique character abilities, finesse, skill curves) and is much easier to learn than something like Street Fighter or even Smash Bros. Everyone I’ve taught this game to seems to enjoy it, though they’re pretty evenly divided on whether they like motion or traditional controls. I’ve learned to enjoy both for different reasons.
I have 40 hours logged on Arms right now, which is only beaten out by BOTW and Xenoblade 2. I still feel like there’s a lot of depth left to mine. Of all the multiplayer games we’ve gotten on the Switch so far, this is by far my favorite.
Just popping in to say that it makes me happy just to see Battlecon in the news at all. It's my favorite board game of all time; my friend and I are just as addicted to it as we are to Smash Bros. Wii U.
