@shoeses yeah i definitely get that. it's fair. I can't help but think there's a more interesting way to do a racing game with sonic that's not like, ya know, a ripoff of mario kart. maybe tails and knuckles get super fast boots or something to help them keep up with sonic's speed.
make something more unique where sonic is in a running track race against other fast hedgehogs or something actually interesting
I think the journalists and folks like kit&krysta really tied themselves in conversational knots about how sonic is better than MKW because fan reaction seemed so torn on the highway courses. Mario Kart World has been tremendously satisfying for me and all my friends, obviously just anecdotal experience, but I'd guess most people feel this way. It's a super great feeling to have a new ambitious mario kart after 11 years of waiting.
I just don't think 90% of people know or care about sonic in a car
Absolutely blown away by the negativity in this comments section. Long time Metroid fan who has played literally every single Metroid game multiple times here, absolutely love Metroid Prime 1 and Super Metroid, and I really enjoyed Metroid Prime 4. How in the world did the Desert ruin this game for people? Theres literally so much to like about Prime 4 like the way the bike feels, the beatle-esque guided psychic bullet, the lava boss, the aesthetic of every area. Blown away how divisive this can be when it just felt like a very fun game to me
@Old-Red I couldn't really disagree more about the world / level design, the Viola factory has one of the coolest puzzles in any metroid game, as well as the entirety of the Ice Belt. Turning on the factory in both cases and watching the environment transform the visuals AND the way you traverse it was amazing.
I think I agree about the Story though. It's really surprising that in the 19 year window between MPHunters and MP4 Nintendo couldn't be bothered to create a compelling scenario for Sylux and Samus to share. Really made me feel justified in my apathy for the sylux teases in MP3 and MPFederation Force...
@N00BiSH Wow — this is a wonderful list! Nice to read, totally agree. Yeah the wackier tone is a great idea, I think Brothership THOUGHT it was being wackier, what with the electrical circuit characters and puns, but it came across as really forced imo compared to the laughter, alien, fawful, dream and even paper theme. It just feels like "oh okay thats cute there's electrical current's that power the water... but it's not like... super fun..."
Same with like the character designs, like the Zokket troops are decent but frankly, the main non playable characters are really... boring... why can't we have the same level of world building effort in Mario & Luigi that Paper Mario gets?
I thought Paper Jam was a good soundtrack but I agree Dream Team and before are amazing
If they do make a 7th M&L game, I just hope they can have more moody songs. Between Brothership and Bananza, nintendo has been shying away from their composers who make haunting serene melodies, and it saddens me, since david wise and yoko shimomura are really the 2 people who got me into liking music at all
@SirMime for sure, the bosses are largely really excellent
makes the padding and tedious additions to this 6th entry extra frustrating
I legit wonder if this developer even played their game nearing completion of Brothership. Did they think the boat was... fun? It's barely even fun in spirit tracks and at least in that game you can pan the camera around and LOOK around where you're driving the train. In brothership... you just like... look at a map and select where to sail... and then... wait. And there's no camera movement. It's the most disconnected, frustrating, impactless M&L game by a mile, and that's including Paper Jam which at least had a fun world to explore and a better battle system with the cards
@ToniK Brothership literally takes a millenia to finish
The bosses are amazing, and some of the enemy battles are fun, but not even messing I think the game is 3X as long as it should be. just cut out a crapload of grinding and connect the islands into one cohesive world to explore without the stupid Ship which was a horrible version of the already stupid Spirit Train, and we will have a great M&L game again
Brothership really focused on the wrong things. the story is also an abolsute slog
@Sylamp Dang I think people in general will just disagree with this
I don't think her stuff sounds samey at all, especially considering the different samples used in sugerstar saga vs the DS games vs the 3DS games, so would have been amazing to hear what she was capable of for a 2020s era M&L game
besides, even if you do think she overuses violins I'd way rather have that overused than the brass elements of Brothership that get kind of grating
@N00BiSH @N00BiSH all 5 of the original games have wonderful music you're so right
Brothership has a good theme for the ship (even though the gameplay is total dogwater on that thing)
and the battle theme is fine, but some islands just have crappy weird staccato trumpet tunes that feel very out of place. Shimomura was intensely missed in this outing

If anybody sees this comment, I simply want to know what you would do to make Mario & Luigi 7 incredible.
