@Bomberman64 yeah I'm not a fan of altering games by way of emulators but if it makes a game more enjoyable/accessible for someone else then good for them! Game are to be enjoyed. What did you mean by 'Old games need careful thought put into them to make them approachable for a modern new audience.'? Do you mean the devs should think about it at the time or that emulators need to consider it for older games?
I find this topic fascinating. It's FOMO at its highest - how to enter such a long-running series?
I believe the truth is a sad one - that if you didn't experience it at (or near) the time, then it is too late to truly experience older titles.
We have simply become too accustomed to modern ways of gaming to have the patience to play and genuinely enjoy older games (unless we did play them at time of release, in which case nostalgia and muscle memory can make them as enjoyable still).
I think if you missed out on 'essential' games, and if you do go back and play them in order to understand the lore/origins, then you must go into them expecting it to be a bit of a chore. If you didn't play them at the time, most games age.
I'd be fascinated to hear others' thoughts on this!
@NESlover85 I find for the most part it plays well enough, but I am patient. Very heavy load times when sailing (frequently stop and wait 20s for it to load anything even a block ahead). In some mines when clearing a way, it will not display that a block has been mined (you'll hear the sound and can walk through it); sometimes this can last up to 20s. Frustrating when close to lava as you aren't sure if you're walking into it! Experienced both docked/handheld. Hope this helps
@Dragonslacker1 I’ve not played streets of rage 4 yet - love the originals. Is it worth the full price or wait for a sale? I’ll look into deaths door as I love games with good music. Huge draw for me! X
@Dragonslacker1 brilliant thank you 👍🏼 I just downloaded Inside, have played Inmost (although I got stuck…) - and loooooved journey of the broken circle! Top recommendations thank you. I’ll check out Gato Roboto. From me - Old Man’s Journey is lovely, straight forward puzzle mechanics and mainly story-driven. Florence is cute, really quick (1 hour ish) and always makes me smile 😊 have you played either? X

@Dragonslacker1 have you any recommendations for other short memorable games? I loved this and I’m leaning away from long RPG games..! Thanks
