Re: Twilight Princess HD Nearly Had Wii Remote Controls

Definitely missing the motion controls, particularly since Wii motion plus could've really improved the control over the original Wii version. really both schemes would have been good. I kind of get the impression this was kind of a half-hearted release though. The animations seem super rough. The camera is floaty as hell and so far the updated graphics are kind of meh compared to wind weaker hd. I'm almost tempted to sell this one off and pop in the original instead.

@ferrers405 I totally agree about the accounts. Their current system is downright archaic.

As for power, the ps4 is as powerful as it can be at the price point people can pay and the software still isn't using that fully. I'd say Nintendo needs to be closer- it at least needs multi-tasking- but there's a difference between creating a good game and creating an interactive cinematic experience. Mario Galaxy is a great game. It doesn't need the graphics that MGS 5 needs, and frankly I wouldn't pay another $400 to replicate functionality that my ps4 and PC already have. if Nintendo launches a new console half way through the cycle it will need to be something unique and inexpensive that sits next to a ps4 and is just powerful enough to attract 3rd parties and multitask.

@ferrers405 Nintendo already tried to beat Sony at the power & graphics game. The PS1 outsold the more powerful N64 by 72 million. The PS2 outsold the more powerful gamecube by 135 million. The Wii pulled away, did something different and finally outsold the PS3 by 15 million. Why would they go back to the old model that clearly wasn't working?

That said, re-inventing the wheel with every console clearly isn't working either. What is needed is refinement- to turn the gimmicky additions into solid, worthwhile upgrades. They were almost there with wii motion +. I always thought the Wii U should have just moved things around so that both hands have a joystick, d pad and dual triggers so it could do both traditional and motion. That would have been a cheap change to make and would've let them either put the cost of the game pad into more powerful hardware or just knock it off the price tag.

@ferrers405 Because Sony is already doing a fine job of being Sony. Microsoft tried to be Sony and look where that got the XBone. It is leading the Wii U by only 2.9 million units worldwide and eating up huge losses in the process. They started at $500 with a kinect and were just barely breaking even, remember? Now they're doing bundles with 2 games and sometimes a kinect, depending on the sale, for just $350. For every 2 Xboxes sold, Microsoft's losses could just about buy a Wii U. At least the Wii U is turning a profit on hardware. There's no room for 2 Sony's.

One consideration, It would be easy for MS to bring a lot of power in a livingroom/mobile mashup situation by simply turning the Xbox into a livingroom Windows platform. That could be stiff competition for Nintendo. Fortunately they just fired another 7800 Nokia employees, meaning they're turning away from phones and focusing on their core. With Microsoft's track record over the last 5 years they're more likely to bungle it and turn a great possibility into a wasteland of incompatibilities and broken promises. But.. food for thought. I do hope this Nintendo is thinking about that.

0) For Iwata to come back from the dead ;_;
1) A more refined Wii remote system with 2 IR controllers with a joystick, a 4 button pad and 2 triggers on each remote. That could suit multiple play styles comfortably and give 3'rd party and (more importantly) indie devs the option to port games with a standard control scheme but still let Nintendo do their thing with innovative mechanics. I already have a PS4. Most people do, according to the sales. I don't need something that replicates its capabilities and the endless string of overhype and repetitive disappointment that has been the AAA arena this gen.

2) An end to the oppressive linking of software to console rather than software to account. I know their IP is their bread and butter but seriously, they're the only ones who still do this and it makes upgrading to a new 3DS and upgrading to a new console a total pain.

3)Merging mobile and living room BUT ONLY if it also includes the development of some kind of mobile controller. Touch screens are terrible terrible controllers and it's the #1 reason I own a 3DS and pay 10x the price of an app store game for a 3DS game.

4.) Better market targeting. I remember this rift starting back in the N64/PS1 days. Ninty targeted kids assuming that meant targeting their parents. Sony targeted young adults. Kids want to be young adults. Sony took off. By targeting kids repeatedly Nintendo is always sort of the tinker toys of gaming. Go bolder, go after the 30-somethigns with money for a dedicated gaming platform but no time for the long winded lunacy of MGS storyline or 30 levels worth of mundane smithing practice required to make dragon armor in Skyrim. I love Zelda games but boy do I hate having the same simple instructions delivered and repeated ad nauseam every time I go to buy a bottle from the lunatic shop keep. Also, Conker's Bad Fur day and Golden eye on the N64 were like the best games ever.

5)either Some impressive graphical power or a really low price tag. I know, I said I don't want something that replicates the PS4 but Sony and MS have spent a lot of money convincing a lot of people that that's what makes a console great. More importantly, 3rd parties need something they can port to easily and they're already set up to work to really ridiculous specs. One way or another they need to get that market share up to get the games and 3'rd party support. As long as idiots keep forgetting that there's a huge thing called "lack of competition among ISP's"standing in the way of 4K, idiots will keep buying hardware that supports 4K 5 years before anyone can deliver 4K content to watch with it. No one's ever gone broke underestimating consumer intelligence. Slap a faster CPU in that puppy and print bigger numbers on the box.
