Re: Monster Lair

michinmuri

After all my own jhype of never owningthis and now getting it, I feel ripped off. Yeah, it was nostalgic to me due to never have owned this during my Turbo years, but after playing it, it's a headache. The game play IS repetitive; it's the same this everystage. The first is forced platforming, then a shooter stage where you fight a boss. The graphics are decent, but nothing great. The music is nice sounding due to the CD quality, but doesn't amuse me at all. The power-up weapons are plentiful on each stage, but run out too soon. This game must have been in development for a very short time because it just feels like it could have been so much better, but was rushed. Damo said it right in his review, limp. Actually I prefer flacid.

Re: Phantasy Star II

michinmuri

A game I remember from back when I never had a Genesis (would go to friends house). Was a great game but nothing compared to what the FF series could ever do. It's worth the 800 points for goodness and nostalgia unless you have the Genesis collection.

Re: Riot Zone

michinmuri

Yeah, bad as in crap. The only thing I remember good about this game was the soundtrack being cd, and not much else. It's very much like all of the other games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage, but without the hype. This is one of the few TG-CD games I wish I had never gotten due to it not being worth the money. For 800 points however, it may appeal to some of you.

Re: Mega Man 2

michinmuri

Yes, this IS the best MM ever. I remember playing MM as a kid and liking it so-so, then MM2 came out and I had to try it. You can't help but fall in love with it. The music, design of stages, bosses, enemies, etc are all top-notch. If you get any MM for the from the NES era (or an MM game for that matter), this is the one.

Re: Strider

michinmuri

A very good game. Great graphics and awesome design. Personally, I like the Strider on the NES more. This one is so linear and the NES was a bit less. Still an awesome game.

Re: The Dynastic Hero

michinmuri

I got it and I love it. I know some of you may get the MD version due to visuals, but as much as like good graphics, I am a complete audiophile for the Turbo games. The music in this game is outstanding. As one reviewer previously stated, there are a few songs here and there that don't really seem to fit, but most of the songs do fit the theme of each stage and all of the music is eautiful none the less. Also, the graphics aren't quite that much worse than the MD version, so it's not such a big deal. Yes the MD has paralax scrolling, but I don't think you'd miss it if you weren't used to it.

Putting the comparisons to the side, this game is just a lot of fun. It's very much like Dragons Curse but with much better music and nice visuals. So fa I've yet to find any major flaws with it, and the fact that it is such a nicely done game, it's fun, and my nostalgia factor had been waiting about 15 years to play this really makes me love it. 5 stars from me!

Re: Monster Lair

michinmuri

I personally don't care a whole lot that this game isn't in the same vein as the others in the series, I'm just concerned personally that this was one of the games I never got to play back in the days when I had my Duo. It still looks to be a 3-4 star game so I will definitely cough up the points to get it. Also, the rockin' CD music was one of the things that made the CD games stand above and beyond many of the games that were out during this time period. I love the Turbo CD music.

Re: The Dynastic Hero

michinmuri

Haven't gotten it yet, but from watching the videos and wanting this so badly back in the day, I have to try it. It was one of the few good Turbo games I never got to play. I can't wait to try it (and yes, I'm STILL waiting and drooling for Y's I+II.)

Re: Axelay

michinmuri

One of my favorite shooters, up there with Blazing Lazers and Gates and Lords of Thunder. Great graphics, sound, playability, the whole nine yards. If you like shooters or game with pretty pictures, get this immediately!

Re: Pro Wrestling

michinmuri

I agree with the review. Aged poorly. Only people who are nostalgic of this game or who are morbidly curious should get this (or possibly if you and a friend want to take out frustration on each other.) Yeah, amazon munching on your skullcap was freakin' hilarious. Also, it's funny to see Kin Korn Karn in action. My favorite move once I got it down is Hayabusa's "Back Brain Kick." BOOYA!!!!!

Re: Military Madness

michinmuri

Man after all these years of not being able to get a copy for the TG, I got this and was dissapointed. The computer basically flattens me by level 3-4, and after that it's frustrating. Maybe it's me (most likely.) I prefer Metal Marines over this any day.

Re: Dungeon Explorer

michinmuri

One of my favorite games from back in the day. I agree with the mixed reviews. I played this game with friends and alone back in the day, and loved it. I played it months ago alone and got frustrated, especially when the Wii put another classic under my nose. You love it or hate it, you just have to try it. And I agreewith game guardian. Back then there was no AI or stuff liek that. The only thing was a million dudes and you had to be good enough to kill them all. And for leveling, you need the crystals rom the bosses as well as the crowns and boots and other power-ups found in the dungeons. Those only really make the game a little easier. The main trick is to find a spot (usually a diagonal) from where you can pound the creatures and the generators without gettign hit yourself. It is a difficult and taxing game, but if you don't give up, you will persevere. I love this game.

....Why haven't they brought out Keith Courage yet?

Re: US VC Releases - 15th October - Gate of Thunder

michinmuri

Honestly one of the best weeks in a while. The addition of a TurboGrafx CD-based game will show the power it had to those who never got to see it back in the day. Also, Ninja Gaiden 2 is possibly the best ninja game ever made, while Metal Marines is a great strategy game. All three of these games have a dear place in my heart, but I am in love with the TurboGrafx, so the only one I'll be getting (for now) is Gate of Thunder with it's rockin' soundtrack. This is one shooter to not be missed. All three are great games if they are in your niche of games youlike to play.

Re: Gate of Thunder

michinmuri

Awesome! It's downloaded today. If you like a shooter, don't pass it up. This game is worth posting twice about. Just wait til they bust out Y's I + II. I'll never shut up.

Re: Sin and Punishment

michinmuri

This game is a lesson in frustration and also what the N64 was capable of. It's a very good game, interesting, and artsy. However, it is so d@mn hard. Even on easy, the game will punish you. For those easily frustrated, look out. However, those looking for a very different game, a challenge, and some flavor that never made it out of Japan, this game is worth the money. I like it, but not totally my bag of tea. Also, I'm sure it played much better on the N64 controller, but the cube controller works ok once you get used to it. Maybe the classic controller wil handle better?

Re: Super Air Zonk: Rockabilly Paradise

michinmuri

first post....yay!
who cares. I wonder if this is going to be the chip version or super cd version. I wish they had done the super cd version of bonk 3 vs the chip version. much better music of course. either way super air zonk is a good game like the first. i dont really remember it too much since it's been so long since i've played it, but if you like shooters and/or air zonk, go for it. gotta love the turbo grafx. i do; it's one of the main reasons i bought a wii.

Re: Gate of Thunder

michinmuri

very very good shooter. right up there with blazing lazers, the star soldier bunch, and r-type. I'm glad they're bringing in the cd and super cd games. these games will show people who didn't get the turbo/duo back iu nthe day what they were missing, and also what the duo could have done to the market had they marketed it better/had better prices. alos, just wait for the sequel, Lords of Thunder. That game is mind blowing, especially the music. I can't wait to play all of the old games again.

Re: Ys Book I & II

michinmuri

YES, YES, YES!!!!! It's abouttimethey started bringing out the heavy hitters. This needs to ocme out in the US ASAP. I'd gladly pay 2000 points for this game. An yes it is kinda like Crystalis without the sword swinging. The music is some of the best in gaming history, and the cutscenes absolutely are awesome (especialy for their time.) A must-have game no matter where you live in this big world. If it comes to your VC, get it right away. One of my favorite games of all time.

Re: Samurai Ghost

michinmuri

I can't give it more than three stars. I loved it when I was younger, but I remember playing when I had my second Turbo Duo, and it wasn't all that. It's jumping and slashing and about it. The control takes a bit of getting used to. The graphics are good for it's time, but not a horrible or great game. Not quite as good as Ninja Spirit, but better than plenty of other games I've played. This game is similar to Astyanax for NES.

Re: World Heroes

michinmuri

no way?!?!? neo geo games? well, that's kewl. I wonder if we can get a few of the better atari jaguar games, too?

Re: Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure

michinmuri

Great game. I had the super CD version back in the day, and the music was great and so was the game play. I hope they bring some of the CD and Super CD games to the Wii soon.

Re: Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos

michinmuri

Best of the three game NES series. Absolutely one of the best ninja games ever. This game will keep you busy for a while. Although this is a bit easier than the first, you will still have to earn the right to see the credits scroll. If you like the first NG, you HAVE to get this one!

Re: World Class Baseball

michinmuri

Not the best game. I'd rather have Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 on SNES. If you want some good TG sports games, wait for TV Sports Football and World Court Tennis. The tennis game had an RPG element to it, which was flat out awesome.

Re: Neutopia

michinmuri

I downloaded last night. Man the memories it brought back. Yes, it's a LOZ clone, but yesit is a good one. It's a bit more linear than Zelda, but it's less frustrating due to the fact. Also, when you find a person in the map, they talk a bit more than they did in LOZ, so you have bit more of an idea of what to do and where to go. I have to complain about some of the enemies. Some of them are just different characters, but that's it. Same movement as any of the others. They walk around and let you hit them. Still, a great game. If you like Zelda 1 or 3, try this and it's sequel when that comes out. Great graphics, music, and fun!

Re: Super Metroid

michinmuri

Some consider this the best game ever. It's hard to disagree. Look at all the rave reviews above. This game shines even in it's age. A must have for the VC. If you don't have it, get it NOW!!!

Re: Shining in the Darkness

michinmuri

This was a decent game. Typical RPG stuff. And I had Cannor Fodder on the Jaguar. I was way better than the SNES one, but both are still good.

Re: Pilotwings

michinmuri

A great game. I absoultely love it, and want the N64 version even more. I'm a bit of a sucker for flight sims and plane games (especially Ace Combat series on PS2) and this game is highly entertaining. I can't wait for it!

Re: Landstalker

michinmuri

Looks alot like Breath of Fire 3. Is it anything like that, RPG, or more of the isometric hack 'n' slash?

Re: Neutopia

michinmuri

A must-have for any Zelda fans. This game is very good. Can't wait forthis AND it's sequel to come out.

Re: Silent Debuggers

michinmuri

2 stars? Maybe my memories of my childhood escape me. I rememeber this game being a difficult one, but not to the point it was a two star rating. For the graphics and attempt to make a unique game, I'd give it at least three stars, but before I do that, I'll cough up $6 and check it out on my own. Then I'll rate it

Re: Blazing Lazers

michinmuri

A shooter not to be missed. I've never played Soldier Blade, but will get it due to the rave reviews. You can't pass on this one either.

Re: Air Zonk

michinmuri

Very good game. Glad to see they are bring a some of the better TG-16 games to the VC, which is that main reason I bought my Wii. I agree with 4 stars. Still wish they'd pick up some of the CD and super CD games like Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, Cosmic Fantasy, and the Y's series. Another one to look forward to is Silent Debuggers, which I belive will come out soon.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2

michinmuri

You'll always find people to argue this game, just as people have argued Zelda II, but this is my favorite Mario for the NES. Great graphics, music, and just pure fun. I really like the fact there is no clock and the fact you can get up to four "life points" per level, which really givers this Mario a different feel. All in all a definite game to not miss.

Re: J.J. & Jeff

michinmuri

I hate this game more than any other game. If you waste money buying it, it's either because you are morbidly curious or just plain hard-up. Should have been rated one star or less. You've been warned.

Re: Ninja Spirit

michinmuri

absolute must-have for any fan of the PCE/Turbo Grafix. One of my favorite games. This game goes to show how great games could be for their time. A simple ninja platformed but awesome. The last level is nigh impossible to beat (I never have.)

Re: ActRaiser

michinmuri

One of the best SNES games ever. Proably should be in a top 10 list somewhere (in my mind it is). This game is very much worth the price. Get it ASAP and be WOWed!

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

michinmuri

I remember loving the game. Heck yeah is was hard and buggy, but back then we didn't have much, and it felt great being the turtles and kicking Shredders @$$. Basically, if you're into nostalgia like me, it's worth the 500 points. For most people, it might be 500 points you shouldn't spend. In my opinion, this is at least a 3 star game.

Re: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

michinmuri

I'd say 3 stars. In my opinion, it'd have to be really good to get 4 stars, which it is not. However, the game does have really tight control, and is a break from the typical Zelda, which it seems most people don't like. Still a fair game for 500 points; it will keep you busy, whether searching for items or leveling up.
