Such a bummer. I missed this announcement last week, so it feels like a kick in the nuts to find out on launch day. US retailers are saying Dec.31, but Amazon.ca lists March 31, 2017...not encouraging.
I was a huge fan of the arcade version, and downloaded this as soon as it hit the eshop. I'd agree with most of the review, except for the note about the precision of the controls — playing on the gamepad (off-tv), where the margin for error is so tiny, and the later levels so challenging, the controls do not provide the precision I need. I can fluke my way through with save states and many tries, but it's not skill. Level 6 especially — would be great if the sensitivity of the sticks was adjustable, because the tiniest movement of the stick creates too much motion in your ship.
I loved DS2 so much on WiiU that I took the plunge on PC gaming purely to play DS1. Although DS1 seems oddly slow and simplistic after a couple of hundred hours in DS2, it's still a great game — cool art style, solid gameplay, good voices and music. Despite having finished the PC version, I'll definitely get this on WiiU just to play it on the gamepad.
I'm still playing Darksiders 2 regularly — my favourite game on the Wii U despite its well documented issues. The desire to play the original got me off my ass to get a controller and install Steam on my PC. Although I enjoyed DS1 the sequel is better in almost every way — superior combat, more interesting environments, smarter puzzles, better leveling and loot, and more compelling enemies. Both have amazing atmosphere, cool art style and great voice work.
I wish I could play the developers' new Chronos game without having to get the Oculus Rift. Looks super cool, but too bad they didn't make Darksiders 3 first.
