Re: Every New Game In Atari 50's Final DLC Expansion Has Been Revealed

Slightly confusing additions. I know it's not related to the bonus, but I was really banking on Atari adding the exclusive Bubsy game they own for Jaguar as DLC. It would have answered the demands from some post-80s content and you know, use the stuff you bought for money.

Guess we should predict some Gold Masters series on Intellivision content in the future? I like the Gold Masters series, but so few of them have the wide scope of Atari 50 in terms of influence or depth. Intellivison is close but that's just one console while Atari 50 could swim through arcades, and over 5 consoles, etc.

Lots of interesting things (mostly as sub-text!) to this list.

The positives:

  • Glad a lot more 1970s Arcade games are added. I'm not familiar with some of them. Curious about some missing ones: No "Steeplechase" (but we have the Atari 2600 version).
  • Desert Falcon seems like something they held onto from previous later day 2600 releases to pad out this. Curiously, only the 2600 version, no 7800 or Atari 8-bit.
  • Off the Wall, but not the arcade version which is another one of those damn "Atari Games" games.
  • Stellar Track is a text-based game (!) Curious how this will pan out for console versions.
  • Avalanche is interesting. It was not a hit, but Activision's Kaboom! is basically a rip-off of it and gets all the glory. A little less appealing without the Mad Bomber though!

Comments:
While I understand a lot of gripes, "No Activision?" I'm leaning towards that's not going to happen anytime soon. Activision still likes including their old Atari 2600 games in new games. Did you know you can play Pitfall and Enduro in some later day Call of Duty games? I'd imagine licensing them out is not on high order.

I know people are not ultra enthusiastic for pre-Super Mario Bros. 1 games, but what exactly are they expecting for Jaguar? I'm predicting they'll add Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales eventually. I'm sure that's a game that might need some confirmation about details before just flinging it onto Atari 50. The only games I truly dream of them adding are the Iron Soldier games and Battlemorph. (Jaguar CD is surely even more of a nightmare to emulate than the Jaguar!)

Curiously, no 7800 games. Surely this is Atari banking on the re-release of their mini of this, but I guess there are not that many games for it.

Dream Additions that I think are possible:
Starpath games! Surely whoever owns the rights is just letting them sit. These games put the 2600 on steroids. Dragonstomper and Escape from the Mind Master are the real examples of fascinating games that could be made for the system.

More Atari 8-bit! I know Atari just released the mini-version, but this system is really underexplored in how vast it is.

@Zeebor15 I think you hit the nail on the head. In modern media, it's a very good look for a corporation (Atari included) to look as if they care about the community. Having news via the YouTuber (who some people who don't look at gaming websites will probably watch exclusively) is not a bad look and i'm sure he will gush accordingly as its a free pay day and a glorified press release for him.

I hope this does decently. Atari 50, and Karateka I doubt lit up sales charts. Looking around online, it's not discussed very much in any major way, and I think only their Ninja Turtles collection (which is also strong) sold a million.

They get such strong reviews but people don't seem to give enough of a hoot because despite players saying otherwise, I never hear them being stuff they look at for nostalgia or how well something has held up today.

I doubt Activision (especially with the current Microsoft acquisition) will allow for several of their classic titles (Pitfall!, Pitfall II, River Raid, H.E.R.O., Enduro, Kaboom!, etc.) to be shipped out. A real shame, as there is a lot of potential of getting Atari computer versions of their games included. But who knows? They have included those on various Atari Flashbacks.

Outside more games that barely get a re-release (Jaguar, Jaguar CD games) that I would love to see is the games by Starpath get included. Their games have been AWOL and really push the Atari 2600 to the limit. Dragonstomper and Escape the Mind Master show off that that the 2600 has more than shooters and arcade ports. Even Atari 2600 fans seem to forget these games exist.

Excited for the home brews and hopefully new documentary stuff too!
