Why are game programmers still making 2D platforming games with the same annoying problems that plagued them 20 years ago? Do they think it makes it feel more retro if they program something that doesn't control or move like you'd expect a game in 2010 to play? This felt like one of those NES games that you rent based on cool box art only to realize once you've stuck it in that you're in for a frustrating weekend. You can only shoot in front of your face while enemies are anywhere but, random objects that don't stand out from the background hurt you among other things. I spent enough time with games like this when I was younger that I really don't feel like be subjected to it anymore.
That's somewhat discouraging, as I usually play my DS on the train and the train round trip is about 3 hours. I might have to pass on this one until a later revision is out or a more accurate report of it's battery life is in.
The best thing about being a kid is you can play all these awful games and not even realize it, then grow to love them. I remember renting all sorts of awful NES games and it never even occurred to me that they were crap. I would just sit there and play and play and never get anywhere due to the broken controls or whatever other flaw.
There was a lot of shovelware for the NES much like the Wii.
One thing that really annoys me about new games is the stories! I know some people really like them but I hate if I can't skip through the videos. I don't care why you have to do things in video games as much as how to do them. I think that's why I've stuck with Nintendo as their games seem to be pretty thin on long, overblown, poorly acted cinematic scenes.
Wasn't just Atari, also the Colecovision and Intellivision, along with any stand alone game systems like pong.
When the crash happened retailers didn't want to stock video games, and consumers thought the fad was over. When Nintendo brought the NES to America, they added in the ROB and light gun and called it an "entertainment system". They even marketed it as a kind of toy because video games had left such a bad taste in retailers mouths.
Once people played SMB and Duck Hunt they were hooked! The NES took off in a surge of popularity and video games were back!
Hopefully this will give them and game developers time to have a decent launch library. I remember it was about a year into the DS's life until it had 3-5 good games to choose from!
Too many variations of the DS! It feels like the Genesis all over again with the Genesis 1,2,3 CD, 32X, CDX and the Nomad. Compare that to the DS, DSlite, DSi, DSi XL and now the 3DS.
I'm a pretty big Nintendo fan but I'm pretty put off by all that.
I liked how the 360 version works better unfortunately. It had more of a DVD playback feeling when watching something while the Wii's playback seems more like a youtube feed that can be fast forwarded one minute at a time.
Everyone bought Wii Play when it first came out because it had a controller with it and controllers were impossible to find at the time. I imagine now it's bought for similar reasons, why just buy a controller when you can get one and a game for just 10$ more?
Next game should be Mario/Luigi/Toad/Princess since it will be New Super Mario Bros. 2. It'd be fun it they make it where you can unlock your Mii when you beat it or something.
Also for the love of god, make a level editor!! That would be the most fun ever for a Mario game!

Re: Mario Sports Mix Giveaway!
Yay
Re: Review: Zombie Panic in Wonderland (WiiWare)
I downloaded this demo and didn't much care for it!
The way enemies came at you and how you could only move back and forth it was like Space Invaders 3D with zombies and much lower difficulty!

Re: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition Coming to U.S.
I already have all the games from the VC and I didn't really care how SMAS played, but I'll still buy it. Damn you Nintendo!!!

A small delay is always worth it if it means a better game. Glad to see developers doing their homework.
Re: Review: Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube)
I wish they'd make a whole game like the FLUDD-less levels
Re: Nintendo Power Claims Sonic 4: Episode 1 Will Cost 1500 Points

Is there not a new Madden on the Wii or is it just not as popular?

So how does the lock on work? Does it detect that you have it downloaded somehow or does it just come with all three games?
