@mattmanforever I wish it WASN’T called out at all. I wish the majority just accepted it and it would go down as the gold standard for video game adaptations.
@mattmanforever Critics do not need to call out on it, WE need to accept it and embrace it the way it is, because everyone involved in making it truly cares.
@MoonKnight7 I disagree with the whole “juggling shiny keys” criticism. If we apply that logic, than does that mean no video game movie can respect the source material?
@Baker1000 That’s my biggest takeaway, that somehow you can’t please everyone, but the fact that critics couldn’t find the absolute joy and purity of a Mario movie that actually honours and respects the source material is maddening to me.
@TripleJump I don’t feel that way. I will always accept and enjoy anything that has Mario with it. Do not judge me or say that I have no “standards”, that’s just how I personally feel.
@Greatluigi Are you not familiar with the days of Disney’s films being well under 90 minutes? They don’t THINK that about the children, it’s been proven true that children (especially the younger ones) get restless when a movie goes for too long.
@Kyloctopus When you say “hodgepodge”, I think you say that because this film combines different elements of so many Mario games from over the last 40 years. That to me is a GOOD thing about these movies, very good actually.
@Gryffin Really? You didn’t like ANY of the jokes or dialogue in this movie?! Not even “the castle, it died!”, undoubtedly the funniest line in the whole movie?
@Nintoz OR, more like a movie director who has a strong love of the games and wants to faithfully recreate those games on the big screen in a way that hasn’t been done much before, especially back when video games were considered more niche.
@Bluelink45 Don’t worry, the Mario Galaxy Movie was NOT made using any sort of AI. It even says at the tail end of the credits that the movie should not be used to train AI.
@BigRed40 Once again, I have to stress that I am a big fan of Illumination’s work and cannot fully understand why exactly people don’t like their work.
@MyUsernameWasTaken I’m 27 years old and I’m not afraid to say that I still absolutely love animated movies just like this one. I don’t care about “demographics” as a desiring factor, watch whatever you want. When people say that they are not the target demographic, are they just implying that they don’t like colorful, whimsical adventures like this one?
@Notsoavid This sort of stuff is what also brings NEW fans into the fold. For instance, because Wart is in the movie, now a whole new generation of kids will want to play Super Mario Bros. 2. I always welcome fan-service and obscure characters because nobody will ever truly be confused, if you know, you know, if you don’t, you’ll be curious and want to know more.
@Notsoavid @Notsoavid Even if you DIDN’T recognize the character, their presence is still very welcome. Are you say that character should never appear again and including is a bad thing?
@progx On the contrary, Sonic 4 looks like it’s FINALLY gonna be set on other worlds, so that gripe you have about the films being set in earth will very likely be litigated.

@Radziel Well disagree with that. The story was not at all lackluster, and the references were not distracting.

@-wc- Whats so “Trumpian” about it?
Re: "It's Truly Baffling" - Shigeru Miyamoto Comments On The Mario Galaxy Movie's Critical Reception
@BAN I disagree with many of those who say there’s not any depth to these movies because in my view there absolutely is.

Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@Dr_Lugae I agree
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@MagicEmperor Again, what you call “references”, isn’t that just worldbuilding?
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@MyUsernameWasTaken Im sorry. Didn’t know you were more of a Kirby player you and not a Mario player.
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@DennisReynolds The film is not cynical, the reaction you are giving is cynical.
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@Exerion76 That’s a very toxic mindset to have, implying that things need to be deep in order to be deemed acceptable.

@MyUsernameWasTaken Just because you’re not the target demographic doesn’t mean you couldn’t be able to enjoy it.

@FishLipFace How so?

@BiscuitCrumbsInMyBed Believe me, Zedd will be very capable, because what you accuse of being a “girl boss” is just the new norm.
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@Dalamar Not everything is a reference, just general worldbuilding.

@Twilite9 Don’t feel bad about it.
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@Notsoavid How does one differentiate the inclusion of certain characters count as “fan-service” to just general worldbuilding?
Re: Unsurprisingly, The Mario Galaxy Movie Is Already 2026's Biggest Box Office Hit
@Ironcore Seriously? I go to the theaters all the time.
