@Lizuka tbh i think nintendo's view (as far as i remember seeing on the internet) is that their strategy for avoiding scalping issues was to make enough volume for everyone that wants the next console. it takes time to build up that volume before launch/preorder announcements.
@ladyquietbottom Nintendo just doesn't seem to like spoilers about their games. Coincidentally, an article from this site back in March talks about the Day 1 patch: "The patch notes highlight that 'time travelers' (meaning players who change their console's date settings to experience the game running in the past or future) will not be able to experience any of the seasonal events planned for New Horizons ahead of time. I believe the point of the rolling updates was so there is no spoilers from the time travelers. That's it.
