Re: Just 10 Days Since Launch, Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Already Amazon's Third Best-Seller Of 2021

But you don't seem to acknowledge at all what this particular Zelda game does well. You haven't even played it and just assume that it's a bad game because of what you heard others say about it. So it is very much about your preferences and that's why you consider its status as a "best seller" as some sort of blight on gaming in general.

You claim to be a levelheaded person who can easily talk about the flaws in your own favorite game, but you refuse to even entertain the idea that maybe other people can see past the flaws in this game and actually enjoy it for what it is. It baffles you so much that this game is doing as well as it is that you even call into question the critical thinking of people buying it.

Brand loyalty is real, there's no doubting that. But brand loyalty doesn't just spring up overnight or happen by chance. You have to do quite a few things correct consecutively to gain the loyalty from the consumers for your brand. And that loyalty can be lost as well but just because you don't see the reason for someone being loyal to a certain company doesn't mean it's wrong. The same way you can acknowledge the flaws of Dark Souls and still call it your favorite game, others can acknowledge the flaws that Nintendo has and still find enjoyment in their games.

Hardly anyone bought Skyward Sword upon its original release on the Wii, so why would Nintendo even consider this game an option for re-release if they're only going off of if people buy the product or not? And the inverse is also true. Mario Kart is consistently a top seller, but they haven't announced any plans for Mario Kart 9 yet. Why is that?

Also, you mention that Skyward Sword is polarizing and people either love it or hate it. That's true, and the people who loved it were eager to buy it again, but you also have to account for the people who never played the game before that are interested in it. The people who maybe played it but didn't like the motion controls so they bought it wanting to try the new button controls. And also the people whose first introduction into the Zelda series was BotW and now are greeted with another game in the series.
All of these factor into the sales of the game. But sales alone don't make a product good, that only comes from a personal viewpoint after experiencing the game firsthand.

It's ok if a game you don't like sales well. That just means you weren't the target demographic. Not every game is meant for every gamer. But let others enjoy what they enjoy and just be mindful of what you say and how you say it. That's all.

I fail to see how my initial reply suggested I was seeking your justification. Especially seeing how it was a complete opposing view to yours on the matter of critical thinking. It was merely a suggestion to keep a positive outlook for future games that might suit you better and to not insult others for liking and buying games that you don't find appealing.

"Critical thought"? Gaming is a niche hobby, nowhere close to needing critical thought. If you like the game then buy it. If you don't, then don't buy it. It's really that simple. No need to bash people for liking a game that you don't. That's the beauty of having so much variety, if the latest release isn't your cup of tea, then you can be sure that there will be several more new releases right behind it with hopefully something that fits your gaming sensibilities.

Not everyone who played the original still has the game though, I know I don't. I think the bottom line is, if you like a game you'll get it. Doesn't matter if it's brand new or several years old. Just look at all the people clamoring for Nintendo to put other consoles on their online offerings. Gaming is just a hobby and a very niche one at that. There's really no rational thought that can validate or invalidate a purchase.

I've been playing Skyward Sword non-stop since its release. It's so good and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Just beat Tentalus and I'm about to get the next song.

Also, Coheed and Cambria released a new single, "Shoulders" and I've already listened to it over 100 times. It's a real banger and I love it. Hopefully the new album is announced soon with a release date.
