Um... Well actually that has nothing to do with why I liked it at all... (Though I really do love the real time battle system especially later in the game)
But please for the love of god don't make fun of anything like that... It'll completely ruin the game for you later on when the story gets REALLY GOOD...
And I'd wait for the DS port... Rather if or if not it has the anime couldn't possibly make a big enough difference considering all you do lose in the PSone version...
Trust me on that... I've had them both at one point & if my SNES Cart hadn't died I would have snapped this PS disc into tiny little fragments LONG AGO...
The Anime (While fun to watch) doesn't even sync up right with the in game events...
It's much MUCH better to just play the SNES version & watch the Anime afterwards...
That or just wait & see what they're gonna do with the DS port...
Mario's "Butt Stomp" ground pound move didn't come along until SM64 so no unfortunately not... Trying to remember if the spin jump was in here or not though...
Well unfortunately at the end of the day there are only two things you can do to enemys outside of combat...
You can jump on them resulting in a battle that gives you the lead advantage... (OR just to torment the village people)
OR... As you could see in that video you can get a Power Star that instantly kills anything you hit or anything that hits you... (Which will usually up your level quite a bit)
Other then that & minigames (Which often do things differentially) your stuck doing things in battles...
But that really isn't a bad thing, This game has a wonderful combat system that's as fun as it is zainny. (Just like the Paper Mario's & the Mario & Luigi series)
And giving a character one weapon instead of another will result in a completely different way of fighting...
Oh... Well... Right then... What the HECK was I thinking... ?...
Anywhoo... Well that's an easy fix...
Simply play Sonic 3 & Sonic & Knuckles 50 times each to unlock Sonic 3 & Knuckles...
"How the hell is THAT easy!" You say?... Simple...
All you have to do is select the game let it load past that blue screen (Before the game itself loads, Just wait for the sega logo if your not sure) and congratulations! You just "played the game" one time...
Repeat that process as many times as needed & you'll have the game unlocked probably within 10min!
Well... Street Fighter 2... I'm sorry but that is roughly as basic as it gets considering that most fighters today come from the concepts originally introduced in that game...
The special move command sequences are a standard used in almost every fighter that followed that game & the ones that came before it look & play almost nothing like what you want at all...
It's easier then you might think... Every character only has 3 to 5 special moves (Most 4 & only one actually has 5)
Just look up gfaq's and pick just one character to work with at a time...
You'll be annoyed by it a little at first but once you get the system down you'll probably come to see the game as too easy because unlike games like SSB you can only take the mind games so far...
I can't remember perfectly but I think he only used the hammer outside of battle during platform based minigames...
And I don't recall any items creation systems unfortunately... But then again I don't recall anyone outside of Japan getting those back then anyway...
And finally last but not least... Yes & No...
You in true to squaresoft games of the day fashion only had the option to ignore or complete side quest... Anything on the main plot line trail was unavoidable & Linear... (Except for maybe how it's told to you & or how much you wanted to hear about it)
Yes it's vary different from just about everything else, But then you can't really find a better place to start...
Melee is better balanced, But it's learning curve for the advanced stuff is quite high even for someone who spends most there time playing games...
Brawl is easy to pick up & easy enough to get good at... (Getting REALLY good at it is another story though)
But if you really want to stick with the conventional stuff, You can't go wrong with Street Fighter 2 (Get Turbo if you ever want to play competitively with it, Super is great but it's not the best version when it comes to doing what it does the best)
IMO Brawl is WELL worth the money though... Even if you don't find yourself liking it as a Fighter, Its got a massive Platforming game that well take you at least 8 to 10 hours just to beat it and around another 30 or so hours to complete it (If you're good)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles aka Sonic 3 Complete is a MUCH more well... Complete affair...
I know S&K is good but if you can help it, Hold off until they release the whole game instead of just buying it in its two halfs...
They're likely gonna re-release Blue Spheres next followed by Sonic 2 with Knuckles before they bring the complete game out...
You know... To justify those who will buy the game in two halfs & drive those who didn't to the brink of insanity until they eventually crack & do buy the game in two halfs exactly one week before they release the whole one!!
Well then you're probably right... I still wouldn't up and flat out dismiss the game, But if that drawn-out tail of good vs evil isn't your thing I can't blame ya...
I have never been a huge RPG fan ether... I've never liked any of the FF installments enough to play them completely more once... (Sometimes even just beating the game)
And the List of JRPG games that I have played several times over is vary short...
Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, And Crono Cross (Not just because I had to see all the endings, They are just THAT good.)
Grandia 2, Skies of Arcadia, And Lunar Legend (Legend because I missed the better PSone port and its sequel... @#$%&!)
And finally... Super Mario RPG... Why?... Because at the time it was FREAKING MARIO in a FREAKING RPG!
And also... Giving the porky little plummer and his friends souls (Character depth & in some case's backstory) made me feel closer to the series then I had felt in quite a long time... And sense...
Actually Rosalina's backstory in SMG was the most recent time I actually "connected" with a Mario title... But that's a vary shallow experience compared to what we got with SMRPG...
EDIT
@bosshog
Really!?...
Maybe my memory's much more sweet then the truth but... I can't imagine thinking that...
OK... I Finally went & downloaded the game I so narrowly missed all those years ago...
And I must say while I'm still glad I got to mess around with Sonic back then instead, It's been great catching up on what I missed!
Though I'm still shocked & horrified at this game's MD sequel...
Not only because of how bad it was but also because that was the only true sequel this wonderful game will seemingly ever get... (All the others are more or less comparable to Mario's non-standard outing in case you didn't know)
And I'm still mad as hell that I decided to give it a chance despite its negative reviews...
If my memory isn't COMPLETELY failing me I do believe this is just a standard outing...
But what this game does have is truly a rare thing in the Mario universe...
Epicness... This game not only has a plot, It's a damn good one!
It's funny enough to keep it light at times but for the most part this is the darkest situation mario has ever been put into so far...
And as you progress through this game you really do get a sense of heroism with the cast of characters that otherwise normally just dose not seem like it belongs in a Mario game...
It's in every way in it's own right just as good as the early Final Fantasys... (Not completely in the same way of course! But just as good non the less!)
Well... That is the problem with games that you missed the first time around...
Sometimes those feelings for the days of old are the only thing that keeps you coming back, And if you missed them well...
I don't know... This game looks just fresh enough for me to get my money, But I have VARY low standards for games that I'm willing to try...
But when it comes to my keep or throw list that's completely different...
I don't know simply from what I've seen & read so far as to rather if or if not once this game is on my System it will be staying there or will simply be deleted & ignored...
Being born to a single mother who's the only truly good harted member of a loosely connected family of soulless jerks, I've never been in the company of allot of money.
So around the time most other kids my age where getting there hands on the shiny new Sega Genesis, I was staring down at a model 2 SMS that came with this game for around $50... (I'm in the US... Are idea of being poor is downright idiotic... )
So we made the decision to get it instead of getting the NES several months later and with that she grabbed the ticket to go claim the box upfront of the toysRus we where at...
Meanwhile me being the spoiled little brat I was at the time was going on about sulking back in the electronics department, Whining and complaining that I couldn't get the $200 dollar Genesis that I really wanted...
So... After about 10 minutes of this idioticness has passed my mother came back to drag my sorry out to the car...
And I'll admit I was freaking scared !
I mean she said NOTHING except the words "come with me"...
So out at the car where I was virtually 100% positive an whooping was about to commence she just quietly went over & opened the latch to the trunk... And what do I see... The $200 dollar Sega Genesis that I "NEEDED in order to be cool"... !
Apparently the employee who didn't really know anything about video games had grabbed the wrong box!
So here we where with a brand new peace of tech that we could otherwise never afford for 50 dollars!...
What to do...
...
.... "Well... Must be meant for us" She said...
And with that we where off!...
I still thank her ever now & then... Coolest thing she ever did for me!
Anywoo Sonic Gems Collection also has the three Streets of Rage games on it too!
Though they are blocked from usability without some kind of hacking device (Action Replay & the like) on the NTSC-U version...
Apparently because Sonic Team didn't want the Teen rating for the game over here in the States... Your guess is as good as mine as to why the hell that is...
ESPECIALLY when you consider these are the same nut jobs who thought putting a gun in a Sonic game was a stroke of brilliance... @@
I love this game for the simple fact that they made the whole Mario/Bowser struggle out to be as week as it really is most of the time. (SMG is a HUGE exception to this though)
Smithy is likely to this day the single most evil creature Mario has ever faced. And it's because of THAT that I NEED this game again!
I seriously doubt Mario will ever find himself a better villain...
The fact alone that Mega Man 8 will almost certainly never see the light of day on Wii Wear makes the Anniversary Collection far more valuable then any MM coming to VC.
9 Looks to be EPIC and I can hardly stand the waiting!
Yah I know... But sense it's the only game on Gems Collection that I actually liked (Fighters was OK) I would prefer it wasting virtual space instead of shelf space...
Fun fact for anyone board enough to actually read this...
There are actually four (Count em) FOUR games to bare the title "Sonic the Hedgehog" so far...
And the funny thing is that the most genuinely liked version is the one that people have almost completely stoped calling by it's whole name and or even not considering it to be what it is...
There's the 16bit original which was closely followed by a 8bit remastered port.
And of course the modern sad attempt to revive the series "glory days " on the Xbox 360 & PS3...
But back in the days of the Genesis/Mega Drive there was a second remastered (And I do mean REMASTERED) port of the original 16bit gem, It was made to show off a shiny new peace of hardware Sega was trying to cram down our mouths at the time...
Assuming you've actually been reading this post & haven't just skipped to the end you most likely figured it out.
Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Whom most now days only call by its abbreviation Sonic CD... (And despite its lacking boss battles is still my favorite installment in the early series)
I'm really hopping to see it making a VC appearance soon! (Seeing as my Gems Collection disc actually CRACKED IN HALF!)
And with that, I'm done talking out of my backside & wasting server space...
The simple fact that the fans have nearly completely translated Mother 3 because Nintendo themselves have been to damn lazy to do it should fill them with shame!
I personally think that they eventually will release M3 over seas if only to try & get people to forget the fact that they really didn't want to waste there time on it in the first place...

I don't recall if or if not there are ninjas in this game but I do know there's something much better!
Axem Rangers! The evil spoofs of the power rangers!
And one of the most unforgettable groups of villains in any video game EVER!
Anywhoo... Good to hear you'll at least give this game a chance!

Re: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

...
Well by "own" only seven right now unless you count the Zelda's... (I don't tend to keep the games that I don't REALLY like)
But if you mean played then...
Zelda's if you count them (All but Minnish Cap)
Pokemon's - Blue, Yellow, Silver, Crystal, & Emerald (I'm waiting for the complete editions now instead of buying the first two)
Kingdom Harts 1&2 As well as Chain of Memorys
Final Fantasy's (Main Series up to 9 skipped 3 though, As well as Tactics & Tactics Advice 1 )
Chrono Series (If you can call it a series, Seeing as Radical Dreamers is more or less a Chrono Cross bata)
Lunar Series (Only Legend & Dragon Song before I set it on fire...)
The Paper Mario's as well as Super Mario RPG
And Finally Grandia 2, & Skies of Arcadia (Original & Legends)
Most of them I've beaten but it's only the ones that I mentioned earlier that I've actually completed...
Re: Sonic & Knuckles
Ugh... You just know they're there gonna Street Fighter 2 this thing into the ground...
One can hold out hope, But this is SEGA!!! we are talking about...
At times I honesty think they're worse then Capcom...
And yet... WE'RE STILL BUYING THE DAMN THING!!
Ugh... Well... Must mean it's good... Right?...
