Everyone has it wrong on the control scheme. It had nothing to do with the gyro assistance. Splatoon proves that perfectly. The part that needed to be optional was the 2 screen model. Just when you get comfortable with the controls you are forced to switch to a smaller sized screen with different controls, sometimes not realizing that you were supposed to. And then back again. It was jarring and took away from the experience of what was actually a great game. I've beaten this game a few times because I love the series, and each time I go to play it, it becomes more of a chore than the time before.
Keep the gyro assistance, but make it optional.
Take away the dual screen aspect.
Add in online multi-player and it would be a day one purchase for me, and should give this game the chance it deserves.
