Well, I'm not really upset, but a bit disappointed though. We might get one of Neo Geo's best, but one that has a considerably smaller target group than say an adventure or action game. Basically we got one game, they might've at least added one extra to compensate for it. What worries me is that we have had three weeks of games that add up to a total of five (four if you discount Dynastic Hero). With six libraries of six systems we really should get a bigger weekly output. I'm not of those whiners who wants to have it all right now, but I would like a broader range of choice, and they don't have to be all AAA titles. Even though there's a near endless backlist of games I sometimes get that old N64 feeling: waiting weeks/months for interesting games. With a service like VC, that's just damn wrong.
@Adamant: It takes half a brain to figure the crystal thing out becomes one of the villagers tells you to kneel (or pray) with a crystal at the dead lake. When you couldn't go further in Simon's Quest, one of the first things to try was "pray" (kneel) with a crystal. It didn't take me a guide or anything.
There's another reason for releasing good or more VC games that coincide with major releases. Not everybody will be able to buy them. I'm broke, but I have Wii points. It would have been nice to get a good game to ease my aching heart.
You cannot compare a $50 Wii game to a $6-8 virtual console download, it just doesn't add up. No film studio decides to postpone the release of a kick-butt DVD because there's a blockbuster in the theaters. It's a completely different league.
I don't understand the logic. We release an anticipated Wii game so release a crappy VC game at the same time. Why not release an anticipated Wii game AND a great VC game! There's always one thing better than having ONE great game for the weekend and that's having TWO great games. I don't believe that Mario sales would hurt the VC sales at all.
YEAH! No I can stop making my weekly "Damn, where's my NES Volleyball? Come on, Nintendo, get your act together!" comment! Axelay is a pretty nifty shooter, no doubt!
Allright! I was just asking myself the other day when they would release this little gem, if not with SMG then surely on the Wii's first (US) anniversary. Can't wait for Friday...
BTW, how about you guys do a little write up on the Virtual Console feature's first year on nov. 18th?
What's up with all them jive turkeys giving Simon's Quest the flap?! One of my favorite NES games, the atmosphere, the music, murky caves, ghoulish mansions, snow-capped Carpathian mountains! I enjoyed the transition from night into day, the absence of bosses didn't get my goat, and anyone with half a brain could figure out the puzzle with the crystals. I like the ANN but come on, giving it bad press because Simon can't swim? What games were there then that didn't kill you when you fell in a pond?
Though most of us are sick and tired of seeing people whine for other games when superb additions have just been released, I personally am bored beyond tears with the "Come on Nintendo!" line. Just sayin'.
In case you guys didn't know, apparently the Metroid Preview Channel has been on the Wii shop for some time now. I stubled on it by accident when checking Super Metroid position in the favorite software top 20.
I said it before elsewhere but I'll say it again. Don't waste your points on this one if you own a DS. On the forthcoming Contra 4 game both Contra 1 and Super C are unlockable bonuses. If you desire those games euro style, apparently the Probotector robot is also an unlockable character.
For those of you interested in Contra 2, you'd better hold your cash for the moment. Apparently the DS Contra 4 game has both NES Contra's as unlockables.
^^ Absolutely! Zero Mission is but a slight appetizer compared to Super Metroid. I finished ZM in three hours on my first playthrough. You can expect to put at least thrice as much in SM.
Finally downloaded Sin and Punishment today. Only had five minutes time to play but I'm already hooked! In fact, SM might just have to wait a while...
Indeed, excellent game, if only for the superb story and drama (and multiple endings) for the time. Also, the music is fantastic and the manga graphics are just delicious. I'm going to get this right after its available!
So they charge 600 WP for putting up the American 60hz version? Hm, seems inappropriate. Why not re-release all the 60hz Sega and SNES games as an update now that, all of a sudden, the VC "region-lock" is apparently out of the window?
I second Bionic Commando (the NES version, that is. The arcade version is meh). I liked Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt (SNES) as well, although it was hard as hell. Ghostbusters (Genesis) is a winner, too. Let's see, what else grabbed me in the day... Rad Gravity (NES). Not the best game, but pretty cool in the days.
"Super Mario 2 is a lie". Hahahaha, no offense, but to speak with Junkyard Willie, 'save da drama for yo mama'! Makes me think of the time a guy came into our bookstore looking for a book on trout. When I suggested some titles, he spat 'NO! I've read those books, they lie! They tell lies about the trout, NO!'
OT: I wouldn't buy All Stars, it was fine at the time but now that I'm able to own the originals again, I prefer them by a landslide. All Stars didn't play as good as the originals, the music lost its edge and some of the sound effects were... weird (for example, jumping on Goombas in SMB1 - what was THAT all about?).
Dudes, this is still my favorite Super Mario game, even if it isn't the best. When I was still a young whippersnapper owning nothing but a NES Mario/Duck Hunt set, Super Mario 2 was the stuff of legends! Me and my friends would go over the toy store and oogle the box art, dreaming of the day we'd scrape enough cash together to buy and play it.
Well, eventually I got it thanks to my brother, who promised to buy it for me if he could have my NES for a week. LONGEST... WEEK... EVER! At one point I was crying over the phone because I knew he was playing MY Mario 2 at his place on MY NES.
And to top this tiresome memoire off, once I had both NES and game in my mitts I finished it just before my mother hauled my butt of to the church of her choice. The ending music haunted me the entire service, making me hum the tune continually so loud that my mother kept shoving me to make me pipe down.
I never knew Peach had such a sexy twin! I can see it now, after a hard day's golf Mario and Luigi are chillin' at the club with a bottle of chianti, and two hot Peaches at their disposal. C'mere, bebbe! Five star game!
I was underwhelmed as well. It doesn't give you much of an impression of the game, rather shows that the people playing it are crap. I'd rather have 1-minute video's showing several levels instead of seeing the title screen for 10 seconds and having one character running into its demise for 20.
This reminds me of another game I played to death, both single and in multiplayer: Nobunaga's Ambition (SNES). Hopefully they'll release that one as well, I'll download it immediately!

Why do people still keep asking for GoldenEye? Moan...

Well done guys! Came on the site through the Mean Machines site. Ah, the memories of that mag...

Yes, you can.

Are you sure it's all regions? I only found references to North America, the European Wii.com doesn't have any information.
