I loved the first three Prime games but feel that Prime 4 is one of the weakest Metroid games in the series. I honestly don't even know if I'd rank it above or below Other M. Prime 4 is a beautiful game with great music; but it's also frustrating, boring, and repetitive. I haven't beaten it yet but am pretty close and so far feel that it's a retread of Prime 1 gameplay-wise but with far less variety, less interesting scans and contexts, and far worse pacing. So much of the game is spent wondering where to go next, going from point A to point B hoping point B actually has something new I can access, exploring the same areas over and over again, and reading the same kinds of generic scans about equipment being made and moved and stuff being offline. Basic QoL features such as fast travel and deadzone options are missing. I don't even mind the NPCs much; I'm much more concerned about the game's soulless and possibly intentionally tedious design. For such a short game, there's so much padding and aimless backtracking. I like a quote I read somewhere that it has some great things, but it's not a great game. There are a few moments of genuine fun and interest that I've had, but unfortunately they're far outnumbered by feeling frustrated and underwhelmed.
