Re: Best Fire Emblem Games Of All Time

Phuzion1

Just a word of warning. If you play 3 Houses, do it in Japanese with subs. The VA is beyond *****. Had I not switched language, I would have hated and sold what went on to become my favourite game ever. The OST is one of the best in gaming.

Awakening I messed up an early battle and restarted repeating my moves before I messed up. I then realised that it was absolute BS RNG. I switched off and on restarting the level and the outcome of the first move was different every single time. It just seemed totally pointless playing a strategy game with no strategy. How can you practice and learn from your errors when the outcome changes everytime?

Radiant Dawn. I played very little and sold. Strangely because I loved it. I played from 6 at night until around 5am. Had 2 hours sleep and I have every intention of getting it again when my life allows me silly amounts of spare time.

Fire Emblem and Sacred Stones.
They were both great to play but one of them has ***** music and I can't remember which now.

Engage was awful. I paid for the special edition too at about £80. I was really pissed off. Horrible, irritating characters. I just couldn't play it. It was just cheesy *****.

Radiance I played on a ROM and I couldn't get in to it. It all looked a bit dull. I have a bigger monitor now, so might try it again but I didn't get that straight off first play addiction I got with Radiant Dawn.

#FE I was actually enjoying but it was ruined by the annoying squeaky little ***** of a character.

The Musou game I just didn't like.

Can't wait to try the other DS ones Fates and Echoes. Such an amazing franchise. I'm going to pass on the early ones though. I started gaming in 86 and going back to those very old graphics annoys me. It's like watching a VHS film in 480p on a 28" screen after getting used to 55" 4K, it just looks *****.

Re: Ys Origin

Phuzion1

One of my favourite Switch games (one of my favourite ever games) and one of the very few games I go back and play regularly. Wipes the floor with Ys8 and Ys9. This is fast flowing action all the way through, without some nonsense slowing the pacing. The only stopping is for genuine story sections, not padding. Even levelling up is fun, which is something I usually hate. OST is fantastic. If you like J-ARPG's then they don't get much better than this. Imagine top down Zelda with end to end dungeons, without the over world, smoother mechanics and a story. The graphics although dated, look really nice and all components of the game just work together - the bosses, the gameplay, graphics, story, OST. For me it's a masterpiece. Any top down Zelda fan will love this. It's not a Zelda clone but it is a similar game to play. Action, adventure and puzzles. Everyone in my house loved this game.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Action-RPGs

@SouFir It wasn't to do with frustration of mechanics. It was to do with poor quality and lack of fun.

6 hours of wandering around a boring world, some of the most abysmal voice acting I've ever heard, a complete lack of emotion and even less music to help give it emotion, loads of fetch quests, terrible puzzles, I could probably go on a heavy drinking session and chain smoke 3 full packets of cigarettes and have more stamina than Link in BotW, the Skyward Sword stamina gauge was far less annoying. The graphics looked like Princess Mononoke's and Valkyria Chronicles disabled child. 6 hours and as a huge Zelda fan I was bored to tears. It was the 2nd time of spending so many hours bored because I thought maybe the WiiU just wasn't the right console to play it on, so I got it a 2nd time for Switch, just to realise it wasn't down to the WiiU, it is just a complete bag of ***** that I wasted time and money on twice because I was so desperate to like it. I can tell you now, there is no doubt in my mind if that game had a non Nintendo name and non Nintendo characters it would be in the bargain bins at supermarkets up and down the country with a whoopsie sticker on it. If it had been on PS4 with unheard of characters, it would be showing up in the under £7 sale every other month. A completely substandard game and an excellent example of how a good marketing department could sell a turd to a toilet and convince the toilet it was getting a good deal.

And I only just touched on the bad points, there were tons more, poor dialogue, dislikeable characters. The majority of the enemies were the same goblins, or funnily enough, talking of Ys Origin, a copy of the sand level boss that looked like an upsidedown bucket. Rubbish enemies. A whole lot of walking around nothingness. I can't remember a Zelda game where I thought travelling around the game world was so dire and boring. BotW is just over rated *****. I'm not just having a go at BotW, Link's Awakening was just as bad. They did a great job of turning that in to a kiddies game and such an unstable frame rate that it is the only non VR game to give me motion sickness. And that blur effect, what were they thinking?

I am open to change. They butchered the Fire Emblem frame work for 3 Houses and I loved it (well after I turned off the appalling American VA I loved it). I'm not adverse to something different but different and enjoyable, not different and bad. I never expected the new Zelda to be something like what I have spent 30 years playing. I expected something new. It was totally new, a new all time low at being fun and captivating.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Fighting Games

Phuzion1

Mate a list with Garou. That is a first. As far as I'm concerned Garou is the best fighter ever and it just gets shunned in these lists. Street Fighter Anniversary is a hell of a beast with the classic SF2's, Alpha's and 3rd Strike, Kof98 is a bad boy. I think Fatal Fury RB spec 2 is solid too. For a low tech game I find Jump Force and DBfighterz similar but I just prefer Jump Force. I know it gets hate but it is fun for one of the boring 1 button fighters.

Smash Bros. I don't think this should be considered a fighter. It always is and I always think it is a damned boring kids game. I have tried several versions, on several systems and that zoomy in and out camera is one of the worst things in gaming. It feels like a kids game rather than a fighter. I would call it a battle arena of some sort but I never felt like smash is a fighting game.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Action-RPGs

Mate, so good to see Ys Origin here. Much as I like Ys 8, it had some boring elements. Ys Origin is non stop action. Everyone that has played it on my Switch gets hooked. Other than Garou, it is the only game that was so much fun it justified being bought on my PS4 and Switch. Sadly a very overlooked game but in a world where we live off reviews to make our decisions for us, it is yo be expected. Just to add, Ys never do bad music and the game looks amazing too. It has a dated style, yes it is old. But the dated style, the story, the music, the graphics, the action and adventure and puzzles harmonise perfectly.

BotW though, ARPG is a push. Adventure walking sim more like. Switch is a bad time for Zelda. Two of the worst games that have found extreme fame due to questionable reviews and media influence.

We should have a new genre called inbred housewife simulator, for games that think fishing, sewing, cooking, really bad puzzles and having the stamina of a 2 year old are considered gameplay elements.

Re: Review: Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition - A Gorgeous Love Letter To JRPGs Which Just Falls Short

Phuzion1

Got to say it is a shame that people are taking this review as gospel and not buying Ara Fell because of it.

It is one of the best looking games I have played in years. I'm not huge on pixel art but this was stunning.

OST is outstanding, especially coming from a small team.

All the characters have very real personalities, something I almost always find missing in games.

The characters are pretty much all likeable. The story is brilliant. Yes, it isn't busting out a new standard for story telling but it is told perfectly all the same.

The combat. Are you serious? Dull combat? It was great fun.

Let's put this game in perspective.

Most turn based RPGs - Spam attack for about 3 hours. Sit through a damned stupid battle entry and exit animation everytime. Constant, forced, boring battles. This game if you get fed up, you can just cheat and clear the battle. I played this whole game practically insta killing field enemies, then just fighting boss characters. It was so good to be able to mostly dodge battles and then if I accidentally bumped I could just clear it in seconds and just do the big bosses. I have a busy life. I don't have time for hours of grinding.

Here are some examples for comparisson and why I give this game a straight 10/10.

Most RPG's annoying Wordsmiths turning 5 word sentances in to 25 words of dictionary swallowing, utter drivel, thinking it makes them sound clever.
Octopath - really boring dialogue and story.
Dragon Quest 11 - horrendous voice acting ugly characters and world.
Final Fantasy 9 - Worst characters in gaming history. Annoying rat, terrible Orko copy and irritating tin man and muddy, horrible graphics.
Final Fantasy 12 - naff Star Wars rip off.
Pokemon - appalling animations, graphics and general lazyness on all aspects of production.
Ni No Kuni - Fetch, fetch fetch, forced battle with shockingly long animation over and over.
BotW - Most over rated game of all time. Pathetic walking sim where the lead character's stamina is so poor he can barely manage walking.
Most RPG's totally unlikeable, unbelievable, immature, Hollywood like actors, dialogue and stories.

Ara fell - dodgy walking mechanic when you can accidentally over step. That is it. That is the only negative I can find.

Ara Fell is a wonderful game and so much fun and simply because those tiny little pixel sprites feel like real people, the world feels like a real and beautiful world, the story is told beautifully without smart arsed writing. I felt absorbed in amd connected to every bit of the game. Any other time I couldn't be any less interested in that type of story but I loved following this one.

I haven't finished it yet and I have rushed through many battles, so far I've clocked up 19 hours and it has been worth every penny I spent on it. I now class it as one of my favourite games ever.

I usually don't like menu turn based much as they just have so many issues making them boring, like the ones I mentioned above. I tend to prefer action, puzzle, strategy and adventure games (mostly RPG's) such as Ys, Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of, Zelda (proper ones, not BotW), Fire Emblem, so for me to even find a menu turn based RPG exciting is a miracle.
Now because of this game I have just ordered two other turn based games in hope I'll enjoy them as much as this. I haven't got high hopes.

Re: Review: Groove Coaster Wai Wai Party!!!! - Unashamedly Japanese Rhythm Action Brilliance

Phuzion1

This came up in the demo list. I played a game and thought £50 for this rubbish. I had another go a couple of days later and then again the day after. Now I can't wait to get Super Robot Wars on ebay to get £50 up. That game is so dull and Wai Wai is so colourful and fun. I need that colour and fun in my life.

Going off the demo, I give 10/10. My girlfriend just walked in laughing her head off at me bouncing up and down on the edge of the bed like a demented monkey. Wait whilst I actually get good at it. I'll be bouncing around like a ninja monkey.

Love the Touhou tracks. They work really well with the game.

Re: Review: Super Robot Wars T - Enjoyable Tactical Mecha Goodness For Returning Fans And Newcomers Alike

Phuzion1

I've got to say the graphics are so bad I couldn't stand it and I grew up in the 8 bit era. The battle grid screen is so dull and horrible. The animations are OK but once you've seen one, well they don't really change and they are only OK at best. I just can't go from FE 3 Houses and go and play something this ugly. I had to wait 2 months to get it from Hong Kong too. I love SRPG's, I love anime but this game was dire. I also play loads of 90's games and the graphics are fine but this game to me is just so horrible to look at I don't want to play.

Re: The Physical Version Of Spyro Reignited Trilogy On Switch Will Require A Sizable Download

Phuzion1

So Switch carts hold up to 32GB, Spyro is 16GB. Spyro cart requires 9GB of download. Nintendo is absolutely idiotic. Lets sell a system with the lowest memory possible and then when people buy physical disks to save memory, lets just wipe out 10GB for no reason.

The Switch is the biggest failure of common sense I have ever come across and this is but a mere fraction of that stupidity. The Nintendo Life server space probably like the Switch doesn't have enough space for me to write all the points about their failures with the Switch. 35 years of Nintendo consoles and I can very confidently say I will not buy another Nintendo games console again. The Switch is useless in so many ways.
