Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release

@TerribleTerabytes
I have far, far greater trust in Valve and my digital purchases there than I do in any console manufacturer. Besides, at the end of the day, the PC is an open platform — Steam’s DRM wouldn’t be a real problem to bypass if it ever came to that, and many games on Steam don’t even use any copy protection at all. And even then, if the absolute worst were to happen, I trust the community to ensure that everyone will still have access to the games they rightfully own.

And the second point is simply not true, even though it keeps being repeated in these kinds of discussions. The vast majority of software still runs without requiring any download whatsoever. https://www.doesitplay.org/

A terrible company that employs some really great people (like Jeremy Parish and Audi Sorlie). Incidents like the drama around Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, which was burned onto CD-Rs and consequently couldn't run on many 3DO consoles, or the emulation of classics like Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Collection, which was plagued by frame pacing issues and faulty sound effect playback at launch, are just the latest missteps—and a joke for a self-proclaimed boutique publisher. Aside from the fact that I personally don't care for the entire business model, which relies heavily on the FOMO factor of its customers, I try to avoid them whenever possible when it comes to physical releases. Instead, I opt for the Japanese releases and order from Amazon Japan. That way, I got the entire Blaster Master Zero trilogy on a Switch cartridge for the equivalent of 25 euros and both Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon games for just around 20 euros.

I would strongly recommend waiting for Digital Foundry's analysis before advising the undecided to make a purchase. I specifically bought the Steam version to be able to play it on my Steam Deck OLED, and even here, the framerate cannot be consistently maintained after the first level. The level with the moving train runs on average only about 45 frames, further demonstrating that the title has simply been very poorly optimized, and WayForward continues to have significant issues with Unity.

Play Asia aligned themselves with Gamergate, going on tantrums about "SJWs".. The usual unhinged stuff.

These days, I do business with Amazon Japan. Just imported 3 more Switch games last weekend (Valis Collection I & II and Cotton 16 Bit), arrived today on Wednesday. Funny thing is, even with all the coupons Play Asia is throwing around, Jeff Bezos little start-up is more often than not the cheaper option for me (and I don't have to deal with customs, everything is paid upfront). Even with the Free Economy option and the newest SwitchWatch coupon, I would have paid 154 Euro in comparison to the 104 Euro I paid on Amazon Japan.

RCG 2: This game needed much more time in the oven. Even the PC version has an 30 FPS cap (that you can bypass by using a Beta mode). Pretty shoddy work from WayForward.
