I'm ordering one tomorrow, having finally worked out a way to pay for one! The thought of not having the requisite hardware to play Pikmin 3, Luigi U and the Wonderful 101 was too much. Getting it with Mario so happy days
Wait until this guy seeing the upcoming appalling sales figures for Xbone and PS4: Look at GTA V and what is the point in upgrading? The new games look a bit better, but they will play the exact same as current gen titles. Why would anyone fork out? At least the Wii U is different to the Wii. Its a bit expensive right now, but it will take off when Mario comes out on it.
Superb review, and bang on - this game was a major disappointment back in the day, and arguably the reason for Factor 5's closure. Ahead of its time with graphics that easily stand up today, this game also has some of the most appalling moments in the Gamecube's line-up. The definition of a mixed bag.
Some of the graphics on early Gamecube games are still incredible - like this one. A system where the games age very, very well in my view.
I love the Rogue Squadron series, apart from the dodgy on-foot sections in the last game. My favourite is the first though on the N64 - it had the best level designs!
When was the last time Ninty did a racer? Its really frustrating we have not seen a new Wave Race, Excitebike, 1080 or F-Zero in so long..... a decade perhaps?
This looks like low-budget fun, but will be no substitute for the real thing..... Wave Race!
I'm a huge Mario, Pokémon and Zelda fan, but I would MUCH rather a new F-Zero game than the new HD Zelda, Pokémon X/Y and Mario World 3D altogether - and I cannot wait for those games! We just need a bit more variety Nintendo! I love your platformers, but we have hardly any racers anymore And Mario Kart has become a bit of a party game series to be honest....
I think a big part of the reason why the Wii U hasn't taken off is because, frankly, people are broke. I adore Ninty but I can just about afford to get the latest 3DS software, and the odd PS3 or retro title, but I certainly could not afford to buy new hardware right now, or keep another new system up to date with the latest games. Too many bills, not enough money!
It was good, but the only surprise was a new Donkey Kong. Having said that, Mario Kart, Mario World and Smash Bros. were great, if unsurprising in their execution. These games are evolutions. I would have loved to see a game or two that were really progressive, new IP, or a big game from the past brought back....
Oh no. This isn't good news for the long term. All this puppy-do-do-dingleberry scammy crap coming to my beloved Ninty systems Then again, if New Super Luigi U (dlc) and Mario and Donkey Kong and Fallblox (digital downloads) are anything to go by, then its likely that Nintendo will do this trend justice to some degree hopefully.... I just wish that they'd just continue on with full priced box products - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
They were all great, but if I had to pick one it would be Mario 3D World. It just looks stunning. I adore the 3DS game, so this can't come soon enough. Pikmin 3 of course, is a wonderful game (if it would ever come out!) and Donkey Kong is spectacular beyond words. The concerns people are raising about originality are with merit, but Ninty need to expand the user base - and what a way to do it! (Just make sure Nintendo, if you are reading this, that we need some racers please - Mario Kart doesn't count as its a party game at this stage).
At the end of the day, all this is well and good, but I'm actually really content with what I have to play now: I recently got Mario and DK from the eShop, Fire Emblem Awakening a couple of days ago from Tesco, I have Pokémon Mystery Dungeon in the post and I will have Animal Crossing to download as well. Happy days and lots to look forward to from E3, but for now I am delighted with what I've got.
I'm delighted about this - I think DK Returns could only have been improved with HD visuals and a more fairer difficulty level; the latter oh which will be addressed with this game after it was corrected in the recent 3DS port hopefully.
Still, there's room for a 2D Metroid Nintendo, though I suspect they will get to this once the Wii U truly takes off with software that people know and love already.
Looks very sparse and unfinished. I'm not a huge fan of the Yoshi series to be honest, so I can't see that perspective changing. I love Ninty platformers, but I think this might be one too far..... the resources could have been put into a new racer for example....
Digital as I'm getting it in the promo - but otherwise physical all the way. I'm going to buy a physical copy some day for the collection.... will enjoy the obvious benefits of the digital version for now though....
Either a new 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Race or F-Zero on either 3DS or Wii U, and I will be very pleased, and my E3 will be instantly made. Well, so long as they are updates of the older games, not huge departures from their respective series (eg gone very arcade-y).
Also, I think the new Mario game will be called New Super Mario World, and will be in 3D and set in the Mushroom Kingdom, and will be more open-ended than other Mario games to date..... lets hope so!
Digital for me in the So Many Games promotion. I don't normally download games as I like to own physical games for my collection, and you have more control over your purchase; you can trade it on, sell it or play it in other 3DS consoles than your own. I can see myself buying a physical copy at some point down the line for the collection....
I don't own Ocarina 3D, as I have it on the N64, and its my favourite game ever, so I'm not going to include it on my list. Neither am I including the wonderful Donkey Kong 3D, as again I don't own it but really love it on Wii. I haven't bought Fire Emblem yet but plan on doing so very soon! With that in mind, here is my top 10 favourite 3DS games:
1. Mario Tennis Open - a hugely enjoyable game with my favourite gameplay on the console - a highly underrated title! 2. New Super Mario Bros. 2 3. Paper Mario: Sticker Star 4. Kid Icarus: Uprising 5. Super Mario 3D Land 6. Mario Kart 7 7. Luigi's Mansion 2 8. Resident Evil Revelations 9. Star Fox 64 3D 10. Pilot Wings Resort
Hmm... not sure about this whole subscription idea here. Rather disquieting to see Nintendo even think about subscriptions to be honest. I'd rather pay up front if it was all the same :/
I have no problem with the Wii U's graphical output. So what if its just a souped up PS3 - there's nothing wrong with how PS3 games look in my view! Gameplay is much more important than graphics anyway. As long as the games look respectable on a HDTV, and play well, I'm more than happy.
I'd much rather a physical copy of this, and will probably overlook buying it because its a digital-only release.
I won't spend more than ten euro on any digital game as I just don't feel like its "mine" when its stored on an SD card along with demos, patches, videos, etc. I also enjoy the art work on the cover of a phyisical game and I like displaying my collection. For me, digital games feel very disposable. If you are spending a sizable chunk of change, you want to feel like you have something in your hand, not just a file on a memory card! Having said that, it is nice to have the convenience of digital of course, and I have a couple of digital titles on my 3DS to play around with every now and then.
I'm a multiformat and retro gamer, but I am not convinced by either Sony or Microsoft. I actually think the Xbox One is completely off with regards to its focus on "TV". The PS4 isn't exactly innovative either. Its early days, buts I'm rather underwhelmed. Then again, the Wii U isn't great either, but I do think that it will reall excel at E3 if Ninty's track record with the 3DS is applied to the home hardware. And even if the other two are far more powerful, will people even notice? Look how great Pikmin 3 looks!!!!
Cannot wait!!! Hype set to..... off the scale. I have yet to buy a Wii U, but if this is as good as I think it will be (3D Mario and a new Mario Kart - hello!!!) then I will be investing in new hardware very very soon!
Thing is though, this stuff should be in the game.... and to be frank, it probably is, its just been cut or locked off so as to be resold to the consumer shortly after the game launches. Its short term gain for Capcom, as people clearly do buy this syuff, but in the long run it is going to cost them I believe. Peoples' psychological contract with the company will deminish over time. If Capcom want to see how DLC should be done, they should take a butchers at New Super Luigi U.
I played this game for hours on my own back in the day. The Time Trial mode is fantastic because of the excellent controls and superb course design. Trick Attack mode is just as good again for the same reasons, plus there is also the Contest mode which again kept me busy for countless hours.
This game may not be the biggest title ever, but less is more in this case because what you get is perfection. One of the best games ever to come out on the Nintendo 64.
1080 Snowboarding is one of my all time favourite games! Hopefully Nintendo will fix the slowdown present in the game (particulary in the otherwise stunning Golden Forest) and if they do I will download this straight away

No way I'm paying €15 for a digital copy of Kokuga; five euro tops for it on download.
