Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Sales Have Got Off To A Slow Start

@TerribleTerabytes @TerribleTerabytes apologies in advance for the long answer. I don’t think MP4 is the worst game ever or anything but I think it really misunderstands the series and does some outdated trend chasing. Metroid Prime games are known for their dense, lore-rich, interconnected worlds. In MP4 there is none of that. The maps are all extremely linear, the open world desert is just bad and exists for no reason other than to pad a very short game, the NPCs are annoying and a hindrance to the gameplay, there is very little interesting lore (outside of the Ice Belt, which felt the closest to being true to the Prime name), the overall story is lacking even by Nintendo standards, the upgrades are all really uninteresting. I mean, we waited 8 and a half years and they didn’t do a thing to even evolve the gameplay of a series from the early 2000s. If you haven’t yet, I implore you to play Metroid Prime Remastered and you’ll see what I mean.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

The complaints about this game are valid. If it’s called Metroid Prime 4, there are going to be certain expectations. There are also going to be expectations when there’s an 8 and a half year wait with rebooted development. This game didn’t even come close to living up to the original trilogy. That’s not to say it didn’t do anything right but I don’t get this push from part of the Metroid fandom to claim that anyone who was disappointed with this game is just jumping on the hate bandwagon. This game has a lot of flaws and I don’t want to downgrade Metroid to “good enough”. We’ve seen other Nintendo series take that route and it’s not pretty. It’s okay to have high standards for a series that has consistently hit that bar with decades between and different teams working on them.

Re: Poll: So, Now The Dust Has Settled, How Did You Find Myles MacKenzie?

He was awful. He ruined Fury Green. The game mercifully forgets about him for a while after that but by end game it feels like he’s radioing you every 5 minutes. The fact that there’s no way to turn this off is insane.
I don’t think any of the troopers themselves were awful but the way they were integrated into the game was so sloppy and really ruined the atmosphere. Felt like a total amateur move from a studio that has been making great games for decades … very baffling.
