@Matroska That example use I disagree with and I'll explain why, apologies. Side note, this is Square Enix we are dealing with here, we know their game plan by now. Them backpedaling on block chain gaming, as a note, doesn't restore any of that past faith for me personally.

**Wall of Text alert, long post**

On topic, as someone who used to work in the industry, when the game goes gold, it's completed its initial development phase. So, this point is where you are partially correct to a key point which is true. If we were to plan future DLC or expansion passes or battle passes or whatever you choose to call it for the game, this is planned wayyy before the pre-production phase. Thus correct. However, at least for us, it would be substantial and extensive content not tied to the main games production and development phasing thus new DLC post release, we called it "Content Expansion".

However, in this case, the content is not extensive or substantial. The way they are described by SE, is almost like "time saver", grind beater and daily login bonus packs. To clarify from the website directly:

"Delve underground for a reunion with monster types you've befriended once before. You'll also have the opportunity to scout monsters that are otherwise very tricky to synthesise!" Translation to me; Timesaver day 1 DLC, you get the ability to scout tricky to synthesize monsters sooner and skip the grind, Timesaver DLC.

"Explore these randomly generated dungeons and battle legions of powerful monsters. Each dungeon comes with unique requirements that require players to carefully assess and construct their party. Dispatch the boss that awaits in the final room to earn rare items that will aid you in raising ever-stronger allies" - Translation to me; Part time saver, Part grind beater day 1 DLC. It's s designed to get you access to stronger monsters sooner whilst rewarding your tactical skills, and gives out rarer items to you quicker, grind skipper DLC.

Finally: "Every time you open these mysterious treasure chests, you'll obtain an exciting reward. However, you'll have to wait a little while before you can open the chest up again and obtain the next exciting reward on the list! Keep opening them and you're guaranteed to get your hands on some very enticing items indeed!" Translation to me; a form of "Daily login bonus" Gacha, partial gameplay enhancement day 1 DLC. Thus, by using chance based mechanics to reward rare items, rare monsters and possibly outfits you have potentially faster access to this content, based on daily luck, "Daily Login" bonus DLC.

That's just my take on it.

Who knows, maybe they'll release more substantial expansions to the games world, characters and mechanics post release so I hope the game primarily sells well in the West!

Great info. However...I'm confused. They are realising day 1 DLC? Why? Why not just include it in the game? Is it cut content? Licensing issue? I don't really understand. If it was a season pass for future DLC the fine but why is it being separated from the game at day 1 and not included? Genuinely curious. Just put it in the main game and charge more for the main game lol.

YES!!! Finally!!! This is brilliant news, been waiting on this forever. I absolutely love these games but the hardware has always kinda held them back a bit. I wonder if this is going to be DQM or will to back to Joker naming or Warrior naming? Good news looks like it will come to west because why bother putting English subtitles on it it was JP only? Excited! I really hope it's another massive open world with plenty to do in it, with battles better then Pokémon, loads of things to do, a really big collection of monsters, transfer systems, riding systems again and ofc...fusion/eggs! Ok the switch isn't a PS5 but looking at how good TOTK is it had a high bar to meet. Keeping a keen eye on this!
